My part of this week’s newsletter is a bit
longer than I prefer, but it will soon be clear to you why.
Last week I got a letter from a member of the
present-day Nez Perce Tribe. She will remain anonymous for obvious reasons. Here
are her words:
"John, I have just discovered your website,
at first with delight and then with dismay. Chief Joseph is my Spirit Guide and
I have long been hoping to make contact with anyone else who is fortunate enough
to be guided by this wonderful man. I thought I had found such a person in you,
but on reading the supposed words spoken by the Chief I find these to be a sham.
"Joseph has channelled many words to me
over the years and what you have printed in his name does not ring with his
voice. I have asked The Chief if these are his words and he says ‘No.’
"Do you have anything to say which would
convince me otherwise? If not shame on you, John."
I did not respond to her except to say I had
nothing to say, for we were obviously on different paths.
I got to thinking about this letter last
weekend. I’ve received similarly critical letters before, but this is the
first from a Native American who actually believed in spirit guides and
channelling. Not that other Native Americans don’t–we’ve quite a few of
them on our mailing list. And they support Joseph and me, and accept the
phenomenon of channelling and other related spiritual concepts.
This lady just didn’t accept that Chief Joseph
would bring forth such messages as he does with me. So he could not really be
Joseph. Only "her" Joseph was the "real" one. That seems a
bit strange to me since "my" Joseph’s messages are always so
uplifting and empowering. High spirit guides always uplift and empower you, and
never drag you down.
And then another letter also arrived last week.
This was from someone apparently affiliated with Native Americans in some
unclear way. This person totally discounted the phenomenon of channelling. As he
put it, did I think someone could talk to me after I died? I did not respond at
all to that letter.
I’ve not received a lot of these sorts of
letters over the years. But there’ve been enough that I’ve found the best
approach is to ignore them. Whatever we focus on, we create more of. If we’re
resisting anything or anyone, we’re focusing on what we don’t want. And
thereby creating more of it.
As negative as these letter writers are, I truly
appreciate them. For they clearly demonstrate this work Joseph and I are doing
is getting out there. My personal motto is to always look for the positives in
all situations, to make the best of whatever circumstances I find myself in. Or,
as Joseph said not long ago, "Seek the joy in every experience."
So I never take any of this personally. Whenever
any of us is critical or judgemental of another, it has nothing to do with that
other person. It has only to do with us, and it reflects the way we feel about
ourselves. Enough said about that.
However, these two letters got me thinking about
the world situation today, and the commemoration last week of the events of
September 11, 2001. What we really need, I thought to myself, is not more
divisiveness, more criticism, more judgement, more resistance. To see why not
you don’t need to look beyond the headlines of your daily newspaper.
What we need is to remember who we all are, to
remember the oneness and diversity that make life on our Mother Earth such a joy
and pleasure. We need to simply allow all others to be, to follow their chosen
paths, even when those paths are different from ours.
And we need to avoid getting mired down in past
grievances. All our power is in this present moment. As much as we may want to
drag our feet, we cannot go backward from this present moment. We can go only
forward.
Of course, that’s where many of us go astray.
We get hung up on the past, especially the negative past, the past of pain and
suffering. And we thereby create more negativity, pain, and suffering in our
present and future moments.
We often see oneness and diversity as opposites.
And yet they are not. They are simply part of the colorful fabric we have all
chosen to weave in this physical incarnation. We are all connected, diverse
though we may be. We are all part of all that is and All That Is.
So the bottom-line question for me here is just
exactly what and who are spirit guides? And, for that matter, who are we,
incarnated as we are in these physical bodies?
These questions are particularly poignant and
pertinent during these times of rapidly accelerating energies on our planet.
Many of you have written us recently about the powerful effects these energies
are having in your personal lives–in your bodies, your emotions, your
relationships, and so on. And the energies are also obviously having powerful
effects on a global scale.
Perhaps it’s not just "coincidence"
that the Nez Perce Chief Joseph made his transition from physical to
non-physical 99 years ago this coming Sunday, September 21.
Let me conclude this long-winded monologue with
this: In these newsletters it’s not often I get the opportunity to really
"spout off" and open up to you with my personal feelings, thoughts,
and beliefs–and to come to you from my heart.
So thank you for listening. Next week we’ll
hear Joseph’s thoughts.

Since 1992, John Cali has been communicating with a
non-physical entity called Joseph. In one of his many physical lifetimes, this
spirit was incarnated as the legendary Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce tribe in
what is now the state of Oregon in the northwestern USA. These messages are a
blend of information from Joseph, other spirits in the "Joseph group,"
and John.
John can be reached by email here
or through their website (http://www.greatwesternpublishing.org).
Private readings with Chief Joseph are available here: http://www.greatwesternpublishing.org/rdg/readings.html
