I didn’t intend for us to do a follow-up to last week’s newsletter. It
just sort of happened. That’s the way things go when you let Spirit meddle in
your life! ;-)
A couple days ago, I was sitting here at my desk wondering what we should do
for this week’s newsletter. Joseph, of course, was right there,
"perched" on my shoulder, if you will.
The past couple of weeks I’ve been reading "Dog Stories," a book
by best-selling British writer and veterinarian, the late James Herriot. Dogs
were James’ favorite animal. I’ve also been a dog lover all my life. As a
youngster, I aspired to be a veterinarian, and even went to Cornell University
for a while.
I’ve owned (or been owned by <grin>) dogs most of my life. There are
many dog stories I could share with you. But for this newsletter, I’ll have
mercy on you and share only a couple. Then perhaps some of the others in future
newsletters.
Four days before Christmas 2001, my son John and I left Virginia to spend the
holidays with our family in New York. About 5:30 the morning we left, John and I
took Wiley, his miniature Schnauzer, for a morning walk.
I still clearly remember the soft white street lights glowing warmly in the
velvety dark of that frigid December morning. The merry anticipation of
Christmas filled the frosty air. And I remember how lively and happy Wiley was,
on his morning rounds, as he sniffed and snorted the cold, hard ground.
That turned out to be the last walk the three of us would ever take together.
In the early twilight hours of that evening Wiley, after over 17 long and
loving years with us, still in reasonably good health, died in his sleep,
peacefully and painlessly. John and I learned of Wiley’s death on Christmas
Day.
Almost exactly three months later, my thoughts once again were taken back to
Wiley’s last walk. I received a letter from Ginny Rodgers, a dear friend. Her
two beloved canine friends had reached the end of their time. Here’s what
Ginny said:
"After a full and beautiful life with my beloved
Akitas, Trump and
Jasmine, it is time for their Earth Walk to end now. They were never apart in
life and so it will be in death: they will take their journey together. We are
having a ceremony to celebrate their lives and to help them on their way. A
Medicine Woman will sing their Death Song and help their beautiful spirits move
on to the Happy Place."
Ginny’s website is devoted to her beloved dogs.
Over the years, many of you have written us about your relationships with
your animal families. Dogs (and other domestic pets), for many of us, are
sometimes closer than our human families. And they are certainly wonderful
companions, teachers, healers, and much more. Animal angels at play, you might
call them.
Here’s Joseph.
Chief Joseph
You are all wise and powerful beings–far wiser
and more powerful than most of you have ever imagined. You all have at least an
inkling of this wisdom and power. But that’s all most of you have–just an
inkling, a bare hint.
And so there are many beings of light and love,
in these realms of Spirit, who have volunteered to the service of the human
race. These are beings many of you would consider "inferior to" or
"less than" who you consider yourselves to be as humans–as the
masters of the Universe, as many of you imagine yourselves to be.
And that is quite accurate. You truly are
masters of the Universe. You know this on one level, and you forget it on other
levels.
You all have this instinctive, eternal yearning
for power. That comes from your souls, from your goddess and god selves. It
comes from the divine power you all have latent within you.
But then you get caught up, if you will, in your
modern world’s mass consciousness. Basically, that mass consciousness says to
you, "I am powerful. But unless I do whatever it takes to make all others
different from me less powerful, then I will lose my power."
And therein lies the central reason you find
your world in the state it’s in today.
Your animal brethren, particularly your
"domestic pets," if you will, are in your lives primarily as teachers.
We realize you often consider them "inferior" beings (though you may
love them dearly) who are mostly here to please you and serve your needs. To
some extent, that is true.
But you often see the relationship between you
and your animal friends in a distorted way. These relationships are between
beings of EQUAL worth, value, and power–each in his or her own special and
unique way.
The animals in your life are equally valuable in
the eyes of God–Goddess-the Great Spirit–whatever name you prefer to use for
the divine eternal energy that underlies and empowers every cell of your
bodies–your human bodies and your "non-human" bodies.
For the most part, animals–particularly your domestic pets–are here to remind you of what you
have forgotten. And that is that life is not all that serious. Life is supposed
to be fun. That’s what you, at your soul level, intended your human life to
be–FUN!
Most of you have forgotten that. The animals are
here to remind you of that forgotten memory. After all, how many animals do you
know who take life as seriously as you do?
Have fun. Find pleasure and passion
in every present moment of your earthly lives. Play more, as your animal
teachers do. That’s what life is all about. That’s all it’s ever been
about.

Since 1992, John Cali has been communicating with a
non-physical entity called Joseph. In one of his many physical lifetimes, this
spirit was incarnated as the legendary Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce tribe in
what is now the state of Oregon in the northwestern USA. These messages are a
blend of information from Joseph, other spirits in the "Joseph group,"
and John.
John can be reached by email here
or through their website (http://www.greatwesternpublishing.org).
Private readings with Chief Joseph are available here: http://www.greatwesternpublishing.org/rdg/readings.html
