Do you feel safe? Has your daily life become a chore,
or worse, because there are so many risks in simply getting out of bed every
morning?
John Cali
We humans seem to be on a never-ending quest for
safety and security.
You can see it, literally every day, in the
mainstream news media. Whether they're talking about health, diet, finances,
driving on the highways, surfing the internet, relationships among various
countries, sexual relationships, etc. etc. A common theme running through these,
and other areas of human activity, is how we can be safe and secure. How we can
minimize or avoid risk.
I'm not saying that's wrong, but the heavy
emphasis often makes people almost paranoid. I have a relative who's convinced
he's going to die in a car accident. I have a good friend who's convinced he'll
die of a heart attack. I have friends and family terrified of running out of
money before they run out of life. And so on. They're all living in fear.
Trying to avoid risk is an exercise in futility,
in my opinion. And it often drains the joy and spontaneity from our lives.
Living in fear is even worse.
I love this quote from Mark Twain:
Twenty years from now you will be more
disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So
throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in
your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
I suggest we start the 2007 New Year by sailing
away from the safe harbor, and living each present moment in joy. That's about
the best New Year's resolution I can think of.
And now here's Chief Joseph.
Chief Joseph
Ah -- the illusion of safety and security! An
illusion most of you carry with you throughout your earthly lives.
And yet, as John said so well, it doesn't serve
you well. In fact, it derails you. It throws you off the track you intended when
you incarnated.
Most of you consider the status quo as your
security and safety -- your safe harbor. In other words, "If things never
change," you say to yourselves, "I'm safe and secure."
Change is a threat to so many humans. And yet,
ironically, the only constant in your lives is change. You cannot avoid
it. You cannot "change" it. Not even by choosing to leave your
physical bodies.
For change also exists in these dimensions of
Spirit from which we come to you, and to which you will all return.
"Dead" or "alive," you
cannot avoid change. Get used to it!
Change equals growth. Growth is why you exist,
whether you are physical or non-physical. Each of you, in your own personal and
spiritual growth, are contributing to the growth of your brothers and sisters,
and to the expansion of the Universe.
The Universe is constantly expanding, as are all
of you.
So instead of resisting the inevitable and
immersing yourselves in the illusion of safety and security, throw off your
shackles. Free yourselves from the need to seek safety and security. There is
nothing to seek, nothing to find.
You are safe and secure, always and in all
ways! Even in the midst of changes, no matter how easy or awful they feel to
you, you are safe and secure.
A safe harbor is not where you wanted to spend
this lifetime. You wanted to spend it exploring, dreaming, discovering, growing.
You wanted it to be fun.
But there is no fun in a safe harbor. Only
stagnation.

Since 1992, John Cali has been communicating with a
non-physical entity called Joseph. In one of his many physical lifetimes, this
spirit was incarnated as the legendary Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce tribe in
what is now the state of Oregon in the northwestern USA. These messages are a
blend of information from Joseph, other spirits in the "Joseph group,"
and John.
John can be reached by email here
or through their website
