I’ve been a fan of Jane Roberts, her husband Rob Butts, their Seth books—and Seth himself—over half my life. I count Jane and Seth among my most important spiritual teachers.

Some of you probably know who Tam Mossman is. Tam and I became friends many years ago. That was around the time he was the Prentice-Hall Publishing Company’s editor for Jane Roberts’ Seth books. He continued in that role many years.

The other day I received the following email from Tam. He’s kindly given me permission to use it in this post.

As you may know, Jane’s manuscripts and papers went to Yale University.

This poem, all in caps, was on the wall of the bathroom at her and Rob’s apartment on West Water Street.

I had several opportunities to memorize it. In case it got lost, I’m passing it along for posterity.

THE CAT EATS THE MOUSE.
NEITHER EXISTS.
DO NOT TELL THEM.

What do you think the poem means?

Before you answer you may want to consider the following:

Seth:
You make your own reality.”
You form the fabric of your experience through your own beliefs and expectations.”

Jane:
We are not at the mercy of the subconscious, or helpless before forces that we cannot understand. The conscious mind directs unconscious activity and has at its command all the powers of the inner self. These are activated according to our ideas about reality. ‘We are gods couched in creaturehood,’ Seth says, given the ability to form our experience as our thoughts and feelings become actualized.”

Spirit:
“You are in control. You create every part of your earthly experiences. You are not victims. You are God.”

Thanks for your post. Besides the Seth material, I was also a fan of Tam Mossman–read some of his channeled books and one on writing a novel, even paid him to review a first draft; he was kind and helpful.

I heard recently that he passed; we know he is in the eternal present but being human, it is a sad event for his fans.

I could find no obituary or tribute anywhere. Do you know what happened?

    • John Cali

Thank you, Eve, for your message.

Over the many years we’ve been friends, I’ve always known Tam as a kind, helpful guy. He and I were in touch just a few months ago, and I had not heard anything about his passing. But I will do my best to find out, and let you know one way or the other.

      Blessings,
      John

Love the quote! It’s Woody Allenesque. Absurd yet true! 🙂 I want to use it, but who do I credit for? Seth? Jane Roberts? The non-existant?

      • Alex Vachon

John, I was referring to cat and the mouse who don’t exist.

        • John Cali

You can attribute that to Jane, Alex. In addition to being Seth’s channel, she was also a poet. That, I gather from what Tam told me, was one of her many poems. Hope that helps.

          • Alex Vachon

Thank you John, as always, in perfect timing. Jane, nice to be re-introduced!

As you know, I read all the Seth books facilitated by Jane and Rob. I liked some better than others :). I especially liked the information about healing and “The Way Toward Health”. I resonate so much more with the new Seth channellings through Story Waters. I am absolutely loving them.

    Love,
    Barbara

    • John Cali

Thank you, Barbara. I too read all the Seth books — and, as with you, liked some better than others. I found some of the more esoteric ones hard to understand, at least certain parts. You’ve told me about Story Waters’ Seth channellings — I think they’re great.

      Love,
      John

Thanks for the book information John. Just the thing I should be reading now as I am almost ready to publish my two books. Better to get the good info before I put them out there.

; ) That means we don’t exist either! he! he! What we know as “we” is a construct; an “idea construct” as Seth use to say. Ah, then who are we?? Seth II said we are literately creating our body & everything about us as its ‘happening” in front of us. In my ’20s, I use to dash quickly around street corners to see if I could catch my world “hologram’ coming into existence. In my 60s I’m still attempting to consciously bring into full continuous awareness what Seth II said. So do we actually enter into this idea construct arena? Where is it “we” are creating it from??
You know that for a while Tam Mossman channeled his own entity, called James, in the ’80s. I attended several of his channelings and still have the tape recordings. Did he give it up to focus on publishing or does he stay in contact with James? Tam’s channeling brought into my awareness that people other then Jane could channel. I also have read all of Jane’s material.♥ ♥
Since I am moment by moment creating my world, we all are, that means we can by – pass most of the lower energy construct understandings to create our world with constructs of greater awareness. What are the implications of that? How do we “make it so”, what Seth II spoke of – make it an everyday reality? ♥

    • John Cali

Thank you, Margaret. I had that same thought.

Yes, I do know Tam channelled James for a while, and they wrote a book, “Answers from a Grander Self.” It’s a great book, and I’ve read it several times.

Tam and I had known each other for several years before we actually met face-to-face. And when we did it was at one of his live channellings in Arlington, Virginia in the mid-1980s. I haven’t asked him lately, but I don’t think he’s involved directly with publishing any longer. Neither do I know if he still talks to James.

However — and this is a “plug” for Tam — he’s just finished a new book for writers. What I’ve read of it so far is great. It’s called “7.625 Strategies in Every Best-Seller.” I’d highly recommend it to anyone writing a book. You can find it on Amazon.

You’ve asked some good questions. Any Seth fans reading this care to venture some answers?

Thank you John and Spirit!! They are great teachers and reminders of who we really are. A just in time, posting for me John.

I have most of the Seth books. They are the one’s that really got me going on the inner path. Seth is quite a character, he said he was one of the minor popes. I bet he had a lot of fun!

The world seems to be really giving us the opportunity to create our own reality because what we see falling apart will affect us and allow us to see we are god….or not! hahaha.

    Love to all,
    Jerry

    • John Cali

Thanks very much, Jerry. As with you, Seth is the one who got me started on this spiritual path. He really is a character — I remember him saying he was one of the popes. As you said, he was/is a real character.

Yes, these are exciting times — they are providing us great opportunities to prove to ourselves we are God. 🙂

      Love, John

So lovely to see and hear an old friend’s words. Although I started along my spiritual path with other information and books, once I found Seth I really got to understand what I was learning. I was taking a PhD course in Metaphysics when I really got into Seth and Jane and Rob. Certainly it was life changing for me. As an avid reader I have always valued informative and interesting books. But these were so much more than that. Finally things on this planet began to make sense to me. So Thanks Jane Roberts, Rob Butts, and Seth. For any who may not have read it, do yourself a favor and read “The Oversoul Seven Trilogy” It will give you great insights into those “other dimensions” and especially what might happen when we die. A book worth revisiting over and over again, as I have through the years.

Great reading. Great living if you incorporate the principles into your own life. Highly recommend ALL of the Seth Books.

    Hugs and Blessings

    • John Cali

Thanks very much, Shirl. It seems there are lots of us who “cut our teeth” on Seth’s wonderful teachings. I also highly recommend Seth’s books to everyone.
      Love,
      John

John, when I saw the title of your blog post just now, I actually jumped with surprise! Although I had read some of the Seth books before, last week I decided to start them over again with ‘The Seth Material’, which I have never read. Soooo cool that you would be talking about Jane Roberts and Seth today. Don’t you just love it when such amazing synchronicities happen? Thanks, so glad that you are in my life!

    hugs,
    Wendy

    • John Cali

Thanks very much, Wendy. This is a day filled with synchronicities! Yes, I love it!

      Hugs,
      John

  9. Jeannie

I have every book by Jane and Seth. Because of them they opened something inside of me that brought such light and love.

The poem I sent earlier was an impulse that after reading your blog just came out. It is called This Mortal Self. It was the spur of the moment.

    love and hugs
    Jeannie

    • John Cali

Thank you, Jeannie. I too have every book Seth and Jane did. (And we need to give Rob credit too — he took all the notes as Jane channelled Seth. :))

      Love, John

      • Jeannie

Yes Rob had such a grand sense of humour, together Seth could come through.

He went on the work even after Jane’s passing. No none of it could have happened if not for Rob and Jane together.

        love and hugs
        Jeannie

        • John Cali

Yes, he did have a great sense of humor. And he was so dedicated to the work even, as you said, after Jane’s death in 1984. And up till the time of his own death.

          Love, John

  10. Jeannie

    this mortal self exists
    and because I am
    everything else is
    because I dream
    they become a reality
    and I forget
    that I create
    all that exists in me

  11. Sandra

Wow! I have been into Seth and have met him and Jane in the early 70’s. Just the other day I was telling a friend about them. How synchronistic to see your post today John! Thanks!
