The Greatest Gift: An Alternative To War

posted in: Blog, channeling, peace on earth | 23

Wisdom born of experience should tell us that war is obsolete. There may have been a time when war served as a negative good by preventing the spread and growth of an evil force . . . .If we assume that life is worth living, if we assume that mankind has the right to survive, then we must find an alternative to war. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr., The Christmas Sermon on Peace, December 24, 1967

Is the Flu Season a Myth?

Everyone has a doctor in him or her. We just have to help it in its work. The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well. ~ Hippocrates

The holiday season is upon us. And so too is the flu season—or so the news media (and probably the drug companies) would have us believe. But I know many of you reading this do not buy into that propaganda.

I quit believing in flu season long ago.Read more

My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness. ~ Dalai Lama

There are reminders of the holiday season all around us, no matter what we celebrate—Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan, etc. Or you may not celebrate at all. Or for you it may not be “the season to be jolly,” Perhaps the opposite, for whatever reasons.

Our world is seemingly in a mess, and for personal or global reasons it can be a depressing time for many.Read more

Do You Struggle With the Holidays? by John Cali

George_c_scott_as_scroogeGeorge C. Scott as Scrooge by Bob Doucette

David O. Selznick, the legendary Hollywood filmmaker, once said “I’m so depressed. Christmas is the worst of all. Holidays are terrible, worse than Sundays. I get melancholia.”

Some of my family and friends struggle with the holidays, particularly the winter holidays. (Or summer, if you’re in the southern hemisphere.) Like Scrooge and Selznick, they dread to see them coming each year—whether it be Christmas, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, etc. etc.

Here are a few tips from Spirit.

Spirit

  • Love your body unconditionally—exactly as it is right here and right now. It is part of you, your spirit. You chose it—now cherish it for the gift it is.
  • Your body needs quiet time—meditate regularly. It doesn’t have to be a long time.

In the USA we celebrate Thanksgiving Day the 4th Thursday of every November. I’ve always loved Thanksgiving, and all the holidays. But when I was younger I thought of Thanksgiving mostly as a yearly excuse for overindulging in food, drink, and parties.

It wasn’t until I was much older that I began to understand and appreciate the true meaning of the day. Its name says it all—thanks-giving.

Now, at this time of my life, I make every day Thanksgiving.Read more

Do You Have a Hard Time Loving Yourself? John Cali

As we move deeper into the holiday season, I see more and more folks getting stressed and overwhelmed. That’s not what Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, etc. are all about. They’re about celebrating the season, one another, and ourselves.

Yet many folks put themselves at the end of their long holiday lists. They don’t take time to slow down and enjoy the season. In short, they have a hard time loving themselves in their frantic rush to get everything done.

Does that sound like you?Read more
