13 Ways Your Cat Can Help You Create a Happier Life With Effortless Ease by John Cali and Spirit

I’ve always thought of cats as connoisseurs of comfort—great role models for us humans! They seem to do everything with effortless ease, especially sleeping. 🙂

Here are some of Spirit’s and my thoughts about the lessons cats can teach us:

  • Be your own person—learn not to care what others think of you.
  • Rise to your challenges. If you don’t catch that mouse or bird, know you will the next time.
  • Relax—treat yourself to comfort whenever you can. You deserve it.
  • Acknowledge the humans around you, but do not be overwhelmed by them.
  • Seek quiet places when the world gets too noisy for you.
  • Follow your own path, and no one else’s. In doing so, you know you are teaching others to do the same.
  • Honor yourself in all ways, knowing if you do not, no one else is going to do it for you.
  • Be willing to venture fearlessly into the unknown, embracing change as you go along.
  • Be curious about all life. There is always something new and exciting to explore.
  • Be fully present in every moment.
  • Be fully aware of what is right here, in front of you, right now. Forget everything else.
  • Know you do not need to be doing something all the time. Learn to just be. Being is its own justification.
  • Above all, love yourself—no one else is going to do it for you. And have fun! That’s what life is all about.

I loved this! As animals are our teachers, cats are indeed teachers of how to bask in the NOW moment and to make the most of everything that is comfortable. And equally important, they teach us how to move away without apology from everything and anything that is not comfortable or hints of a lack of dignity or personal safety.

John, I loved this post. Being a person with two lovely indoor cats in my home. They are my family and babies now. What a wonderful experience to watch and interact and relax with my Red and Gussie, when I get home from work, and on the weekends. What peace of heart, joy, and love my cats give unconditionally, always and ever present.

Thanks very much, Karen. I don’t have a cat, but my brother and sister-in-law do, and I frequently “babysit” her. As you said, they love us unconditionally. Something we all need more of it — on the doing and receiving end.

Lovely post, John. Very valuable pointers to leading a more fulfilled life.
Sometimes I find it hard to comprehend the changes that have occurred in my lifestyle. My life was once one long round of joy and one long social whirl. Now it is almost opposite. My life is very quiet now and I have a lot of me time. I am pretty content to be honest. I’m not constantly ecstatic but I am happy.
    Blessings and happy purrs 🙂

Thanks very much, Sarah. I think many of the “lightworkers” today are finding their lives drastically changing, as yours is. But that’s a good thing. I’m glad you’re happy, though. That’s the most important thing.

Happy purrs to you too. 🙂

Thanks John. I never quite know what is meant by ‘light worker’, how is it defined by spirit?

        • John Cali

          You’re welcome, Sarah.

To be honest, I’ve never liked the term “lightworker.” But I use it occasionally because most folks understand it. For me, it simply means someone on a conscious, deliberate path of spiritual growth.

I’ve always had cats and each one had their own personality. My Melony is a doll. If I’m unhappy or feeling unwell she stays by my side watching me, comforting me. She has patience to get to where she wants to go and if patients isn’t enough she will trick me. One night I was watching a show and it was later than my time to go to bed. Melony takes over the rocking chair when I go to bed. So she kept watching for me to go and I wasn’t leaving. She jumped from the couch onto the coffee table then turned to jump up onto the book shelf unit (she isn’t suppose to do). I got up to get her before she could try for the jump. She made a fast turn and went for the rocking chair her goal all along. I ended up on the couch finishing watching the movie and Melony was quite content being queen of the house. That action made me laugh, it was quite funny. I love my cat and she loves me even if I’m late.

    love and hugs
    Jeannie
