2012: The End of the World? by John Cali

Last week my spirit guides told me “Your world could end in 2012.” Not the most uplifting news to hear.

As you probably know, for years the doomsayers have been predicting the end of our world when the Mayan calendar supposedly ends in December 2012. Hollywood even made a horror movie based on that scenario.

I’m sure there are some folks whose world really will end in 2012. Let me explain.… Read more

A God of Hatred by John Cali

Spirit recently said something to me that I thought was as profound as it was brief:

“Religion divides. Spirituality unites.”

Two prominent news stories in the United States today are the upcoming presidential election and the death of Apple Computer co-founder Steve Jobs. Both events are being used and misused as platforms for those with a religious or political agenda.… Read more

I recently heard a wonderfully wise and witty speech by Brene Brown. She talked briefly about religion:

“Religion has gone from a belief in faith and mystery to certainty. I’m right, you’re wrong, shut up.”

That superior condescending attitude applies not only to religion, but also to other areas of our modern society. Politics, for example. And even personal relationships.

I grew up in a large Roman Catholic Italian family. Many of them are still Catholic today, or at least Christian.… Read more

A long time ago, in the dim and distant recesses of my memory, I remember one of the darkest times of my life. My young son, then about seven years old, his mother, and I were sitting together talking about a deeply troubling and painful situation in our lives.

We were working, struggling our way through this devilishly difficult conversation. Our son, wise little one that he was (and still is, though not so little any more), thought love was the answer to the seeming dilemma.… Read more

Do You Believe in God? by John Cali

I don’t know how many times my family and friends have asked me that question. Ever since they discovered I talk to angels and dead folks they’ve been wondering about my sanity.

Most of the people asking the question belong to a traditional religion, and often have a hard time with my spiritual path.

When I first started getting the question I would hesitate, usually managing only a half-baked answer.

That was then.

Now I realize the real question they’re asking is “Do you believe in my definition of God?”… Read more

Wind In the Willows by John Cali

That title is from an old Christmas song of the same name. Though I am no longer Christian, I love the song’s lyrics. They convey a positive, uplifting message of love and joy.

The song’s story is about Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, and their travels all over the world bringing a message of peace and joy to all who would listen. The story is clearly fictional, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is the message.

Here’s the heart of the message:

“With the wind in the willows and the birds in the sky, there’s a bright sun to warm us wherever we lie.… Read more

The Spirit of Christmas by John Cali

I don’t pay much attention to the mainstream news, though I do browse through it quickly now and then, just so I have some idea of what’s going on in the world. Though there’s a lot more going on in the world than what the news media publish, which is mostly “bad” news. There’s more good news than bad. But we rarely see it in the headlines.

I’m fascinated by the so-called “War on Christmas.” It seems to me our world is obsessed with war.… Read more

Are You Complete? by John Cali

Many years ago a young lady (I’ll call her “Karen”) wrote me because she was deeply concerned about her mother’s well-being.

The mother was single, and Karen desperately wanted her to find a romantic partner and “live happily ever after.” But she didn’t know what she could do to help her mom.

Karen said she’d been anxiously worrying and fearing the worst. The worst being, in Karen’s view, that her mother would live out the rest of her life with no man.… Read more

It’s obvious to most people around my town that I don’t have a “regular” job. So folks often ask me “What do you do?”

Till recently I would tell them, depending on how I read their energy, “Well, I’m a writer.” Or “I’m a spiritual teacher.” Or even “Not much — I’m sort of retired.” (Which is only a “half-truth.”) I call this sort of conversation “empty cocktail-party chatter.”

Now my response to that question, “What do you do?” is very different.… Read more

I’ve had some recent challenges in a couple of my personal relationships. As Spirit often says, relationships are marvelous opportunities for growth.

At an earlier time I would have reacted very differently than I did with these recent “opportunities for growth.” I would have lashed out angrily in reaction to the others’ behavior. This time I didn’t.

I’m not sure exactly how I managed this. But I do know I was able to see the other people as I knew my higher self saw them.… Read more

Destined To Deteriorate by John Cali

The other day an old friend and I were talking about the many blessings we have in our lives. Then, somehow, our conversation drifted to a “fact of life” we all must face, assuming we live long enough — growing old.

My friend — I’ll call him “Jack” — is an upbeat, positive, happy guy. He has much to be thankful for — work he loves, financial abundance, a happy marriage, a loving family, good health. Everything most folks aspire to.… Read more

Spirit often gives me spontaneous messages, even when I have not intended to channel. Typically those messages are very short, and usually only for my personal benefit, not for the public.

However, Spirit obviously did not intend this message, given me in the pre-dawn darkness of a cold Sunday morning, only for my personal benefit.

Here’s Spirit.… Read more

The Ending of a Life by John Cali

I’m writing this on Thanksgiving Day (in the United States). I just found out about the death of a dear friend.

My spirit guides have said for years there is no death. What we call death is an illusion. It’s not the ending of a life, but only the beginning of a new life.

I believe that, and have always accepted it. The past several years we’ve had many deaths in our family. I did not have a hard time with any of them.… Read more

Three-Minute Healing Followup by John Cali

Just over a week ago we did a blog article, Three-Minute Healing, which received a fair number of comments. So I thought we’d do a followup.

In our years of working together, Spirit and I have seen a pretty predictable pattern in the questions and issues people want to discuss with us. One of those — no surprise — is healing.

Many folks struggle with healing, especially with the idea healing does not have to take a long time — even healing from so-called “terminal” diseases, as we saw in the Three-Minute Healing article.… Read more

All Paths Lead Home by John Cali

Since I started doing this work with Spirit I’ve often been criticized by family, friends, and opponents for following the wrong path. Especially in spiritual matters.

We don’t have to look any farther than the mainstream news media headlines to see graphic examples of people not only criticizing others for having different beliefs and values, but even killing them for it.… Read more

Three-Minute Healing by John Cali

In an earlier article on this blog, Do You Believe in Miracles?, we talked about so-called “miraculous” healings. What that usually means is medical science cannot explain the healings. But there’s really nothing miraculous about them.

As Spirit has said, “Miracles are nothing extraordinary. They are, indeed, the most ordinary events in the lives of you, gods and goddesses in human form….”… Read more

Animals and the Afterlife by John Cali

Over the years many people have asked Spirit about their beloved pets who have died.

John Cali

We easily believe we humans continue on after physical death. But we sometimes wonder about our animal family. Just this past week several of our friends have experienced the death of a pet.

If you’re animal lover, as I am, you know the heartbreak and pain of losing the physical presence of a beloved pet.

A few years ago Spirit and I wrote an article, Hans Was Here, about the death of one of our family dogs.… Read more

The Death Penalty by John Cali

This may sound morbid to some folks, but I’ve always had a keen interest in death, even as young kid. So when two states, Georgia and Texas, executed two men the same night last month, that got my attention.

Quite apart from whether the two men were guilty or not (one’s guilt was virtually certain, and the other’s was in grave doubt), is the so-called death penalty justified?… Read more

Suffering by John Cali

Is suffering necessary while we walk the earth? It would seem it is, given that today many people are suffering deeply, and many more have suffered down through the centuries. In our work, Spirit and I often come across folks who believe their “lot in life” is to suffer.

This past month or so I’ve been preoccupied with family matters and also with some unexpected changes in my work. So this week we’re repeating an article, Pain and Suffering, we wrote several years ago on this daunting issue of suffering so many folks struggle with.Read more

Is Joy an Impossible Dream? by John Cali

As you know, if you’ve been with us long enough, my spirit guides often talk about finding meaning in life through joy. In fact it’s one of their major “themes.” They often advise us to look for the joy in all our experiences, even the tough ones — especially the tough ones.

Now and then I get angry objections from some of our newsletter and blog readers. They usually go something like this: “How can I possibly find joy or meaning in this experience (death in the family, terminal illness, no home, not enough money, miserable marriage, etc.)?… Read more
