As 2018 draws to a close, I thought we’d review some of the year’s most uplifting blog posts. These are not necessarily the ones getting the most traffic, but those you, our readers, told me you found most uplifting.

1.  Angels In Our Midst

Have you ever met a friendly stranger, only to later realize that person simply did not exist? I did, about a year ago. We all probably have such experiences, sometimes without being aware of them.

2.  The Voice of an Angel

Spirit:
“The reason most of you do not hear the angels, or experience them, is not because you don’t believe in them.Read more

The Unforgettable Street Sweeper

Your angels often come to you well-disguised. ~ John Cali & Spirit

In my younger days, one of our family’s neighbors was a street sweeper—a pretty humble vocation. Like my family and most of our neighbors, Giuseppe and his family were Italian immigrants.

We lived in a small farm town, where almost everyone was friendly. With one exception.

The “Americans,” as they called themselves, harshly discriminated against the Italians. Even in our little Roman Catholic parish, the pastor required segregated seating.Read more

You’ve probably heard of haunted houses. But have you ever heard of a haunted truck?

Let me take you back to January 29, 1963.

That day, trucker John W. “Pete” Trudelle drove his tanker truck from Keene, New Hampshire to Boston, Massachusetts. In Boston, Pete loaded his truck with 4,600 gallons of gasoline. Then he headed back to Keene.

He never made it home.

As Pete headed north out of Boston back to Keene on the Newburyport Turnpike, he passed under a bridge.Read more

Evil and Its Battle with Good

What is done out of love always takes place beyond good and evil. ~ Friedrich Nieitzche,
Beyond Good and Evil

Even if, like me, you pay little attention to the news media today, it seems obvious there’s an angry war going on between “good” and “evil.”

This week we’re featuring an article by my dear friend and brother, Ted Murray. Ted’s an accomplished writer and spiritual teacher. He’s also a great tennis coach.

In Ted’s message today he talks about the battle between the forces of good and evil, and what we can do about it.Read more

The Death Bells Are Ringing For Politics As Usual

posted in: Blog, channeling, inspiration | 14

Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. ~ U.S. President Ronald Reagan

If you live in the United States, you’re probably aware (maybe painfully so) next Tuesday, November 6, is a national election day. The country’s political scene appears more negative and angry than I can ever remember.

If you’ve been with us a while, you may know I’m nonpartisan, apolitical, neutral — however you want to describe it. Read more

Turning Hate Into Love

Whether one is Hindu or a Muslim or a Christian, how you live your life is proof that you are or not fully His. We cannot condemn or judge or pass words that will hurt people. We don’t know in what way God is appearing to that soul and what God is drawing that soul to. Therefore, who are we to condemn anybody? ~ Mother Teresa

Twenty years ago this month, a young man named Matthew Shepard was brutally murdered here in Wyoming.Read more

warrior-woman-wolf

Many of you have heard the words of our MP4, The Way of the Warrior. I thought today, we’d share the lyrics, for those who’ve never seen or heard them.

Spirit

The Way of the Warrior is simple. However, as you have often heard me say, it may be simple but it’s not always easy. Today I would like to give you a few of my simple guidelines or “rules of the road,” if you will.Read more

The Agony of Anxiety and Depression

Just walk slowly in the time after the sun sets and before night descends. Feel the breeze, smell the flowers, hear the trees’ leaves rustle and the birds sing. Watch the stars begin to emerge. ~ Dan Rather, journalist

Peace at Sunset in Tuscany, Italy

Journalist Dan Rather knows a thing or two about finding peace in the present moment, despite a long career spent in anything but peaceful circumstances. Listen to what he says here:

The Magic and Power of Self-Love

Self-love is not opposed to the love of other people. You cannot really love yourself and do yourself a favor without doing people a favor, and vice versa. ~ Karl Menninger, M.D.

self-love-power-magic

As Dr. Menninger says above, when you give to yourself, you automatically give to others. That means when you show self-love, you are automatically loving others. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? Yet it continually amazes me how few of us really believe and accept we should love ourselves.

A week or so ago, one of our readers wrote us a heart-wrenching letter.Read more

The Time of the Great Awakening

As you look around the world today and see so many things coming to the surface that are not in line with your own values and the world you want to see, know that you are witnessing the dissolving and releasing of the old way. All these things that have been hidden before and are now coming into your awareness are not the world you want to inhabit or leave to your children or their children. The good news is your desire and passion for creating a new world is being ignited.

The Tremendous Power of Forgiveness

I can have peace of mind only when I forgive rather than judge. ~ Gerald Jampolsky, MD

I recently received some news about someone I knew well long ago. I’d lost touch with her over the years. The news, which did not surprise me, was about her deteriorating health. She was literally at death’s doorway. I’ll call her Joan (not her real name).

Joan had been carrying a bitter grudge against a family member for most of her life. She refused to have anything to do with this relative.Read more

Slow Down—It’s Life-Changing

America is a country that doesn’t know where it is going, but is determined to set a speed record getting there. ~ Laurence J. Peter, Canadian educator

We live in a dizzy world filled with distractions literally everywhere we turn. It seems no matter what we’re doing, we’re constantly being hounded by someone or something pressuring us to do something else. Or to do more, often more than is humanly possible.

We live in a world where there are only two speeds—fast and faster.Read more

About sunrise this morning, I was out for my daily exercise run. At the edge of our small town, I spotted 3 does (female deer) just ahead of me. As I approached them (they’re not afraid of humans, since they’re legally protected from hunters), a big buck (male deer) from seemingly out of nowhere, aggressively charged the does.

The biggest doe turned abruptly and stared at the buck, then charged him!Read more

What Is True Wealth?

We may be poor in the white man’s way, but we are not poor in the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota ways because we are connected to above and everywhere. ~ David Swallow, Elder and Head Man of the Oglala Lakota Nation

Oglala Lakota Warrior

When I first read David Swallow’s quotation above, I marveled at the power and simplicity of his words. Especially this part: “…we are connected to above and everywhere.”

Recently I’d been feeling a bit “out of sorts.” I couldn’t concentrate on my work, household chores, etc. This is not typical for me.

But I understood, at least partly, why it was happening. We recently had a sudden death in the family. Several close friends and family were enduring difficult, life-changing challenges. Then, just days ago, I found out a good friend had been killed in a tragic accident.Read more

Is Service the Meaning of Life?

The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity. ~ Leo Tolstoy

Recently, I read an amazing and heart-warming story of an Alaskan husky. You don’t have to be a dog-lover to appreciate this dog’s dedication to service.

Amelia Milling, a 21-year-old deaf student, was on a three-day solo trek in the Alaskan wilderness. She took a brutal 600-foot fall. When she finally came to a crashing halt, she was dazed and bleeding. At that moment, Nanook, an Alaskan husky appeared seemingly out of nowhere.Read more

In his book, The Master Speaks, Joel Goldsmith, a leading 20th-century spiritual teacher, tells an interesting story from Hindu scripture.

A man walks into his bathroom and is horrified when he sees a snake. When his eyes had accustomed to the near-darkness, he takes a closer look and sees the “snake” is simply a coiled rope.

Joel then goes on to say:
“Loose anything, loose any condition, and let it go….AndRead more

Many years ago, when I was a new commercial pilot, part of our flight training had been, odd as it sounds, practicing silence. Well, silence was not the purpose of the practice, just a side benefit.

My flight school was in the Rocky Mountains northwest of Denver, Colorado. Our training included, as you’d expect, learning to handle emergencies, one of which was losing engine power. In which case, your plane turned into a glider.Read more

What Is Perception or Can You Trust What You See?

It is impossible not to believe what you see. But it is equally impossible to see what you do NOT believe. ~ A Course in Miracles

A few days ago, I got an interesting lesson is how deceiving our perception can be. I was at my desk getting ready to open some mail. Looking around for my letter opener, I could not find it.

After searching my entire desk unsuccessfully, I was about to give up. At that moment, I looked down and there was my letter opener — right there in plain sight, directly in front of me.Read more

Is the Afterlife (Life After Death) Impossible?

posted in: Blog, channeling, life and death | 7

The afterlife is the belief that an essential part of an individual’s identity, or the stream of consciousness, continues to manifest after the death of the physical body. ~ Wikipedia

So what do you believe? Do we simply cease to exist after our physical bodies die? Or does some part of us live forever? Is there such a thing as the afterlife?

One scientist, Dr. Sean Carroll, physics professor at California Institute of Technology, has this to say:

“Claims that some form of consciousness persists after our bodies die and decay into their constituent atoms face one huge, insuperable obstacle…within (the laws of physics)…there’s no way…for the information stored in our brains to persist after we die….Read more

As some of you may know, I just returned to Wyoming from a family funeral in New York. I don’t mean to sound irreverent, but we had fun and laughed a lot.

It reminded me of another family funeral long ago, for my cousin Giuseppe. Giuseppe died at a relatively young age. As a typical Italian immigrant family, we were all very close.Read more
