All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle. ~ Saint Francis of Assisi
Town of Assisi, Italy
The poet Rumi once said “Be a lamp, or a lifeboat, or a ladder. Help someone’s soul heal. Walk out of your house like a shepherd.”
Spirit
Whenever you’re feeling fear and lost in the seeming darkness of your chaotic world today, remember this: Darkness is not the absence of light—it is the denial of light. No matter how dark your world seems, the light you are is always there.
As Saint Francis says, all the world’s darkness cannot put out the light of even one candle. That one candle is you. The love and light that you are has incredible power—enough power to transform the darkness into light. Enough power to transform darkness and hatred into love and light.
You, standing alone, have that much power.
So when you perceive darkness, it is not because there is no light. It is because you are denying the existence of the light within you—the light that is you.

Do you believe, as Spirit says, that you alone can transform the darkness in the light? Do you really have that much power?

Beautiful post John! Thanks for the lovely reminder. Happy Holidays to you and yours.
Thanks very much, Su! Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones also.
Yes I see lots of people walking in darkness and I always shine them my light. Brother John, your light is almost blinding! Love, George
So is your light almost blinding, my dear brother! Love, John
Lovely post, John, thank you so much! I’ve recently crossed the threshold to self love at a fairly advanced age. I feel the love for myself is love for the light of God/Source within me, so now my love is equally shared outward to this beautiful earth and inward toward the universe within. This is how I relate to waking up.
You’re most welcome, Gretchen. I love your description of crossing the threshold of self-love. Like you, I also crossed that threshold at an older age. It’s really the key to waking up. When we truly, deeply love ourselves, then we love all others. For we are all truly one. One with the divine.
If we believe in ourselves and what we are inside then the impossible becomes possible. We are born of the Light and darkness cannot prevail. Feel your Light, your heart warm your body and allow it to flow from the deepest part of your self. Let it flow and grow through you into the world. Up lift one person and they will do the same. A touch, a smile, shines ever so bright. Fill your heart , the overflow will fill the world around you.
Yes, I believe this is so.
love and hugs

Thanks very much, Jeannie — you said it beautifully!
