Dreams of Home

A few nights ago, I had a strange dream.

I was wandering around a town in Northern Virginia, a town I lived in many years ago. The town was built around a man-made lake called Lake Anne. I was searching for the lake as I aimlessly wandered about.

Several times, I stopped to ask people if they knew where Lake Anne was. No one did.

Finally, I came across a beautiful young woman sitting on a rock. I asked her if she knew where Lake Anne was. All she said was, “You know.”

Spirit

One of Johnny’s and Berna’s favorite books is A Course in Miracles. In Lesson 160, the course says “I am at home. Fear is the stranger here.”

You have all been looking for your home ever since you incarnated into physical bodies. Of course, that was part of your motive when you took on a physical body again—to taste the experience of separation.

Every thing, every person, every object you see with your physical eyes is a symbol of separation. Yet, every thing, every person, every object you see is an illusion if you are seeing only with physical eyes.

You must look beyond what you think you are seeing with your physical eyes. You must realize true vision will never be available with your physical eyes. Those eyes see only the illusion, the dim shadow of the real world.

Your real world is the world of Spirit, the world of God. It is your true home. The home you never left except in your wild imaginings. You are home now. The only thing preventing you from seeing that is fear.

So quit searching and just open your eyes—the eyes through which God sees. As the young woman in Johnny’s dream said, “You know.” You know you have already arrived.

Your seemingly endless search for home has now ended. You have never left home. You can let go of the search and return to that place of peace, the true home you never left.

All is well.

In this video, Marianne Williamson gives us a slightly different perspective of our spiritual home than what Spirit talks about above.

So, essentially, according to Spirit’s response, what we see, or what we “feel” comfortable in is actually a construct we have made that makes us feel less threatened and more “at home”, wherever we are. There have been places where I felt my soul at peace and in love…I suspect my dreams of being lost are simply guiding me to see beyond the physical construct to where my soul is…at perfect rest and safety.

Yes, I think that’s true. A Course in Miracles says it well, and simply: “Perception is a mirror, not a fact.”

So anything we perceive with our physical senses is what we’ve made up, not necessarily what Spirit shows us. With our spiritual vision (for example, in dreams) we feel peace and love. It’s that place, as you put it so well, “where my soul is…at perfect rest and safety.”

This was very timely for me, John. For many years I occasionally have dreams where I am lost and can’t find my way. Within the dream it seems like I am trying to get to a specific “somewhere” but can never get there. I may start out in an area or place that is familiar, or with someone familiar, but from there it seems I am just looking, always looking. I have lived in one or two places that spoke to my soul but those places don’t show up in my dreams. I have realized that I am looking for “home” but have no idea where, or what, that home is. Thank you for all you do, John.

Thank you very much, Carol Ann, for your thoughtful comments and sharing.

I think most of us have spent much of our lives, in your words, “just looking, always looking.” And never finding that home we never left. Till one day we do find it.

Thank you again. God bless you!
