Fear by John Cali

(This article was originally published October 21, 2008.)

This past week we’ve had a broad and intense discussion of fear at one of our new discussion forums. A timely subject, given the state of our world today.

I’m sure most of us know one of the greatest fears people have is fear of death. We talked at length about this particular fear in the movie Tuning In. Another closely related fear is that of growing old.

A couple days ago, I came across an interesting article on aging and dying. It said if you’ve reached 50 chances are good you’ll make it into your mid-80s. But as you approach 85 or so, it’s likely you’ll become senile. Therefore, you won’t be able to make important decisions, take good care of yourself, or otherwise live a happy healthy life.

That’s what the “statistics” and the mass consciousness say. Of course, the mass consciousness is often rooted in the statistics.

Then, of course, there is the fear of Armageddon. Are we living in the “end times” when our world’s financial and government structures seem to be disintegrating?

Are we living on the “eve of destruction” or at the dawn of our rebirth into light and love?

Is it possible to live in today’s world without fear?

Here’s Spirit.

Spirit

Friends, fear is one of the biggest bugaboos you humans have created for yourselves. You have manufactured this illusion you call fear because you’ve forgotten who you are. You’ve forgotten you are all one. You’ve forgotten you are all God.

Do you think God lives in fear? Do you think we in the realms of spirit live in fear?

You are all God, you are all living in the realms of spirit, even as you occupy your physical bodies.

All fear, friends, is rooted in the fact you, at your soul level, have chosen to incarnate into a physical body. Which many of you have chosen to do hundreds of times throughout the eons.

If you think about it, you’ll realize your fears are rooted in the challenges you face in your physical world in your physical bodies.

But if you can “raise your sights” a bit, if you will, you’ll clearly see there’s nothing to fear.

So what if your economy is going to hell? So what if your nations are warring against one another? So what if your world’s politicians are posturing and preening?

All of that will pass. It must pass because nothing lasts forever, physical or nonphysical.

You, on your earth, are all on a journey. We in the realms of spirit are on a journey. A never-ending journey. The journey is the destination because there is no real destination, no end of you or your lives.

Certainly the form of your lives changes. You will all eventually shed your physical bodies. You never intended to keep them forever anyway.

You have a choice here, in this world that seems to be falling apart. You always have a choice.

Yes, you can choose to live in fear. Many of you argue fear keeps you safe. But safe from what? Safe from life?

Why do you think life is dangerous? Why do you feel threatened by what’s happening in your world today?

Life is not dangerous. Life — and death — are perfectly safe. You live in a safe universe. The only “danger” is you do not think you’re safe.

Therefore, you use fear to give you that false sense of security. As you say, “Fear will keep me safe because it helps me avoid what can harm me.”

Nothing can harm you. Nothing!

Sure, you can live in fear and give yourselves a false sense of security. Or you can live in love and give yourselves a real sense of security.

You are love. You are God. Fear is not who you are. Fear is not part of God.

It’s your choice. Choose fear. Or choose love.

    Hello John,

It’s been a week now since you posted this blog and I’ve been thinking about it on and off.

I agree with what Spirit says about fear but I feel that this truth is above the level of our threedimensional world. Sure, I know that I, the essence of me, is safe under all circumstances but the person that I also am, that still lives in this 3D world, still does know fear sometimes. And as such I think that the people who say that fear keeps us safe do have a point in a way.

In the higher realities we are all totally free but when we decided to create this world of duality, time and matter, and to enter it ourselves in order to experience ourselves as physical humans, I think we also created some phenomena in order to prevent that we would get into circumstances where we would terminate our incarnation prematurely. So we created also hunger and thirst, and fear and pain.

The first two would warn us to eat or drink something in time, fear would warn us not to jump into water Until we had learned how to swim, not to get too near a fire Until we had learned how to behave around it, and so on.

Fear was never meant to keep you away from things full stop, but in order to learn how to handle whatever the situation is before you jump into things. Fear, and also pain, are meant to be warning signals that you should do or not do something. As such fear was meant to be useful. However, fear was never meant to rule your life or to be used to rule over someone elses life. We have allowed fear to get out of control, just like our ego’s and many more things, and that of course can never have been our original intention.

In the first sense however, fear is more like caution and certainly not the opposite of love.

    Love,

    Anny
