How To Find Peace In the Silence by John Cali and Spirit

In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in a clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness, ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Many folks today, in this age of endless digital distractions, have forgotten how to be silent and at peace.

Spirit

Have you ever listened to the silence? What have you heard? We’d like you to take a moment, right now before you read any further, and listen to the silence. Can you hear the sounds of silence?

You may have difficulty simply listening, not allowing your mind to chatter endlessly on, as it often does. But spend even just a few moments simply being — be-ing — not doing, thinking, looking, touching — but simply being silent. You will discover an entirely new layer of yourself, an new dimension of being.

In that new dimension you will feel a deep sense of peace, of oneness, of connectedness with yourself, with all that is.

Your world does not value silence, nor does it practice it much. That reluctance to value and practice the silence has taken its toll on your lives and on your planet.

If you will be silent with yourself many wonders will unfold. Listen to your heart beating. Listen to your breathing. Listen to your feelings. Just listen — do not judge, criticize, or analyze.

Simply listen. You will discover much richness in the silence. You will rediscover your soul self. Just be with that soul self in the silence — tenderly, compassionately, lovingly.

Practice this each day, if only for a few moments. You will open up a new world of wonder, joy, and peace — just by being with yourself in the silence. You will empower yourself to really listen to and fully love your sisters and brothers, your fellow creatures, your planet, all that is.

You will regain that quiet sense of inner peace you knew once.

when you listen to the silence there is this incredible feeling in the back of the brain that soothes, that energizes. The heart picks up the energy and the mind allows itself to fall into it. Such peace, such joy is found and you need to enlarge it until it encases all you see and feel and the world changes around you to reflect that peace that deep abiding silence. At least this is how it makes me feel, how it opens the heart and casts its light through me and around me until I feel cradled in love’s joy.

Since reading this I have been listening to the sound of silence and am grateful to you for bringing that reminder to me. I find Christmas a difficult time because of all the hype and manic shopping…..how to hear the silence amidst all that?

Still, great things are going on. Where I work they are opening up to provide Christmas Day lunch for people on their own and a local taxis firm is picking veryone up from their home for no charge. How good is that . It has so inspired the community we have more volunteers than we need!

Much love Peace and joy to you and everyone.

Thank you, Margaret. I know quite a few folks who have the same challenge as you. But, as you said, there are good things happening all the time — as where you work. I choose to focus on those, and also to take quiet time to meditate every day.

Much peace and joy to you too, Margaret!

      Love, John

Merry Christmas, John and Spirit, and many wonderful returns of the Season.

There’s not a day, that I don’t take the time from my duties, to lie down and “rest” for a while, and sometimes that turns into a nap,,, At my age, I don’t complain~! (Grin),,, But I have noted in the last few years a richness and a phenomenon that is almost like a “Cosmic Conversation”, barely heard in the distance, but with a comforting “overtone”. And at other times, there’s just snippets of vision, and of answers to questions I’ve asked myself in curiosity. Many of them have given me the “Ah, HA~!” factor, and I’m so ecstatic, just to have the insight.
Truly, John, listening to the silence is truly Golden~!

Merry Christmas to you too, Conshana!

I’m with you — I never miss a day to take time for and by myself, usually to meditate. As you point out so well, there is much to be gained in that time of “doing nothing.” The silence truly is golden!

Sometimes I need gentle reminders to keep me going on my path and sometimes I need a big kick up the backside! I had become really disciplined with meditation and then I let it slip and haven’t done any for many months. But this post has given me an incentive to restart my meditation practice. It’s not always easy in the holidays with a son who barely sleeps but I’m sure I’ll find a way! Thanks John and, of course, spirit.

Wishing you peace, joy and happy times over the holiday season!!

Thanks very much, Sarah. I also need reminders to keep on keeping on. I think we all do, at least occasionally.

Much peace, joy, and love to you, Sarah, over the holidays — and always!
