Are Guardian Angels Real?

The golden moments in the stream of life rush past us and we see nothing but sand. The angels come to visit us, and we only know them when they are gone. ~ George Eliot, English writer, 1819-1881

My dear friend, Mary Ellen, is a popular writer and columnist. She’s also known as “Angel Scribe.” As you might guess, angels are among her favorite subjects.

Today we’re featuring one of her recent angel articles. It’s a beautiful true story. If you,re a skeptic, Mary Ellen just might convince you angels are real.

The Snow Angel

My wonderful 95-year-old friend, Bea, encountered an Angel! She has lived in our small town for 50 years and knows everyone—almost!

“Most people don’t believe that I saw an Angel,” said Bea. “They give me a funny look and then try convincing me that my experience was not real. I respond to these skeptics with, ‘You are jealous because you have never had such a wonderful experience.’

“Two years ago, on a winter’s morning, we had 2½ inches of snow, and my garbage can was still at the end of the driveway. I needed it back in the carport for ‘fresh’ garbage. I gingerly ventured out, using my cane.

“What happened next is still as clear as if it had happened ten minutes ago.

“My cat and I live on a quiet road. This and the other streets were empty of all traffic. As I was rolling in the garbage can, snow collected under its wheels. The can became embedded in its own snowball. I kept trying to free it up, balancing with my cane, but I was thrown off balance and became shaky. I thought, ‘Now what am I going to do?’ No one was outside, and there were still no vehicles on the road. Then I knew what to do! Say a prayer! Ask God to send me an Angel.

“So I put my elbows on the garbage can’s green lid, folded my hands together and prayed that God would immediately send me an Angel.

“I was still leaning over with my hands folded, when an old beaten-up pickup truck stopped and a young man in his mid-twenties climbed out. I asked this six-foot tall man with dark hair wearing a nondescript jacket what he was doing driving in the snow. He did not answer.

“He asked me in the most amazing deep, soothing voice, one that you would love to listen to if you did not feel good, ‘Are you praying?’ And I answered, ‘Yes, I am.’

“He asked, ‘What are you praying for?’

“I told him, ‘I just asked God to send an Angel to help me.’

“He replied, ‘I will help you.’ And then, surprisingly, called me by name!

“I did not recognize him and again asked, ‘Are you new in the neighborhood?’ He answered this time, ‘No, I don’t live around here. I will help you back into the carport, and then go back and pull in your garbage can.’

“He escorted me on his arm up the driveway to safety, then he pulled in the can. Unbelievably, he put it behind my vehicle where it goes (without being told), and then just as unexpectedly he lifted the lid up.

“I always open the lid. Everyone else closes it, but he knew to lift it up. So I asked him, ‘Why did you leave the lid open?’

“He responded, ‘You tie your garbage sacks and use the can to practice shooting into it to show your grandchildren that you can still play basketball like you did in high school.’

“The encounter was so brief that I never told him my name or that I had actually played basketball in school; and yes, I did practice shooting sacks into the garbage cans so that when my grandchildren came I could dunk balls into our basketball hoop! It was all very confusing. So I asked again, ‘Where are you from?’ And he repeated, ‘Not from around here.’

“His showing up was extraordinary in many ways. He said many things about me and my life that no one else knew.

“It was like an episode from Touched by an Angel.

“I said, ‘I asked God for an Angel. So you must be an Angel. I am going to give you a hug.’

“He smiled and said, ‘I don’t get many hugs.’

“I responded, ‘Probably because people don’t know you’re an Angel.’

“The bottom line is that I felt safe, deeply safe with him. There is no doubt in my mind, then or now, that he was an Angel. I never thought to get his license plate, but maybe I was not meant to have it. His old beat-up truck’s red paint looked like it had been through a sand storm.

“This was a short experience, but it is as clear today as on that snowy morning. Now, every time I see a red pickup truck, I look for him; but I’ve never seen my Angel again. I look every day! Even though he never had wings, he was still an Angel sent by God.”

From my experience of 75 years, I believe that all angels and arch angels and pretty much the whole company of all that is, are all our guardians who will be there right beside us should we call their name. I have been “rescued” so many times by angels, or those who “just happen to be there to help and then slide away.”

How many times have you been trying to figure out how to “fix” something you feel is not quite right, and suddenly the answer just pops into your mind. We have so many Beings listening to us, giving us good answers when we need it, and so forth. When such things come to you, acknowledge the Being who sent it.

We can’t “miss it” if we are listening. LISTEN.

    Blessings to all.

Thanks very much, Mikala! I love the description of your experiences with angels. We all have them but we often fail to recognize our angels in disguise.

The key is so simple — as you say, all we must do is LISTEN. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing this wonderful event! After I reflected on it for a moment I realized that I have had several similar events in my lifetime but had forgotten them. That is the teachable moment I took away from today’s blog…the Angel events probably haven’t “stopped”…I have become blind to them.
In 1984 I drove alone to the Bay Area in CA with no job, some borrowed money and only the few items I could fit in my Toyota. I had prayed and knew in my heart that I would be ok. Long story short…I pulled into a gas station after the very long drive and a man immediately approached me. He was a realtor and within 12 hours I had a place to live and was securely settled. Once I was settled I went to his office to thank him for being so kind and helpful. As you can guess, no one worked there by that name but I had a signed lease from that agency. This is only one of many such incidents that I have had in the past BECAUSE I WAS OPEN TO THEM.
I have a lot to think about, esp the fact that I have closed myself off to further help. Today’s blog was a great wake up call! Thank you!

Thanks very much, JoAnn. I agree — these things are normal, but we’ve become blind to them.

I love your realtor story! I think it would have ended differently if you hadn’t had an open mind.

I’m delighted the blog helped you. Of course, the credit for that goes to Mary Ellen, not me.

I love Angel stories. It is easy for me to believe in Guardian Angels. I had two different Channelers, in different locations, several months apart, who do not know each other, tell me that I had two of them that are always by my side. Both people gave me the same Angel names- Amael and Daveed. I have been talking to them ever since and feel like I am never alone. It’s a lovely feeling.Thank you for sharing John. =)

Thank you, Liz. I agree — it is a lovely feeling knowing we are never alone. It’s especially comforting with all the chaos and confusion in today’s world.

Angels are just as real as we are. Now define real.
Are the characters in a video game real?
    Is the video game real?
    If the computer real?
    Is the code real?
    Is law real?
    Is real real?
    Really!

Amazing, wonderful story. Oh my goodness. Does this happen in more subtle ways but we simply miss it? I wonder….keep looking. Thank you for sharing.

    • John Cali

Thank you, Elaine Joe. I believe this sort of thing happens all the time. But most of us, conditioned as we are to a skeptical modern world, blind ourselves to these events.
