New Year Resolutions by John Cali

For most of my life I made a long list of new year resolutions every December 31. Then I did it again the next December 31. And then – well, you know the litany. I finally “kicked the habit” a few years ago.

Here are some of Spirit’s thoughts.

Spirit

You often hunger for a new beginning in your lives – a place where you can start anew, with no past “baggage” weighing you down. Hence your new year resolutions to celebrate the coming year

It always feels good, doesn’t it, when you have a new beginning? A place from which you feel energized and empowered.

But what usually happens after the new year’s celebration? Often your desires and dreams gradually fade, becoming only dim, distant memories.

What if we said you could feel the excitement, the passion, the joy of the new year more than once a year?

Your lives were never meant to be static and unchanging. You did not come to this lifetime to achieve one goal – whatever that may mean to you – and then to bask in the achievement for the rest of your lives.

Life is not a destination. It’s a journey. And you will never be done with that journey. There is no destination. Not in this life, not in any of your other lives, physical or nonphysical. Your journey is your destination.

You can make each new day, even each new breath, a “new year” – a new beginning. Your lives have no endings, only new beginnings.

And it’s all supposed to be fun. So enjoy the journey. You have more chances at new beginnings than you ever imagined.

I make resolutions not only at the begininng of each year but daily. They are things I can control and actually achieve. A year is much too long with all the variables and those we live with to rely on them only to have the possibility of failure which may not be our doing. So living each day with the intent to make that day better than the one before I can control.

….and what a journey it is..each day brings something new, a different idea, a different point of view, all you need to do is embrace each day as it comes and enjoy 🙂

I love Judith Anderson’s comment above .. that her daily resolution is to be HAPPY !!!

I find that I like using the word intention rather than resolution. Therefore, I can have a daily, weekly or hourly intention … whenever Spirit moves me.

My daily intention for the last few years has been …
I intend to have a safe, productive uplifting day filled with joy, laughter and perfect health.

I may now shorten my daily one to … I intend to be HAPPY .. no matter what!!
Thank you Judith Anderson for the perfect simplification ..

I stopped doing New Year’s resolutions after realizing that the moment I “Failed” to fulfill one I felt as if I had to wait until the next January 1st to begin again.

Now, my only resolution is the one I have when I go to sleep each night and awaken with every morning – to be Happy. That pretty well takes care of everything that matters.

Thank you, Judith. I love the simplicity of your single resolution — to just be happy. That about covers it all.

      Blessings,
      John

“Life is not a destination. It’s a journey. And you will never be done with that journey. There is no destination. Not in this life, not in any of your other lives, physical or nonphysical. Your journey is your destination.”

That really says it all and perfectly so.

My resolve these past 25 or so years is constant, continuous and ongoing. Every day is a new beginning in a wonderful and expansive journey that is the JOY of my life. I celebrate everyday by acknowledging how very blessed I am and how grateful I feel for all that encompasses my journey. . .from there it is one joyful step after another.

Enjoy your new beginnings. The journey IS all that matters,.

    Hugs and loves

Thank you, Shirl, for this. You are a bright, shining example for all of us — to show us how to celebrate our journey as “one joyful step after another.”

      Happy New Year in 2012!

With much love and big hugs,
      John
