Botox Revisited by John Cali

A while back we wrote an article, Botox and Beauty. In that article we talked about a mother who was regularly giving her eight-year-old daughter Botox injections.

Just today I came across the story of a father giving his 18-year-old daughter breast implants. The father happens to be a plastic surgeon. He’s also done plastic surgery on two older daughters, in their early 20s, and other family members.

Quite apart from the ethics of a doctor operating on his own family, I was surprised (though I should not have been) at what the 18-year-old said.… Read more

Would You Believe You Can Be Happy in Westfield? by John Cali

posted in: Blog, channeling, inspiration | 8

I grew up in Westfield, a farming village on the shores of Lake Erie. It’s a delightful, friendly little town. I lived there happily for many years.

An old childhood friend of mine, who also grew up in Westfield, was fond of “bashing” the town after she moved far away. She would criticize those of our family and friends who chose to live out their lives in Westfield, calling them “stupid failures.” She didn’t see how they could possibly be happy there.… Read more

Physical Healing, Part 1 by John Cali

posted in: Articles, Blog | 0

We’ve talked about healing many times over the years. But the subject keeps coming up. We all know why — our world, and each of us individually, need healing of one kind or another: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual.

Although we focus on physical healing in this article, that’s only one part of our full return to wholeness and wellness. The second part is to focus on our own healing before we can help others and our world to heal. And that’s the third part — helping others and the world to heal.Read more

The Secret to Controlling Other People by John Cali

posted in: Articles, Blog | 0

In Spirit’s and my work with others, in private readings, and in informal conversations, one of the major issues coming up for many folks is other people’s opinions of them. They get upset by choices others make. We see so much anguish, frustration, and pain over this issue.

John Cali

People tell us they could be happy if only the others in their lives would do what they want them to. What they are really asking us is: “What is the secret to controlling other people?”Read more

Leaves Blowing in the Wind by John Cali

For whatever reason, quite a few folks I’ve spoken with lately are struggling with “bad” choices some of their loved ones are making. They’re also often struggling with other people’s opinions, especially if those opinions differ from their own.

I love this Dale Carnegie quotation:

“Did you ever see an unhappy horse? Did you ever see bird that had the blues? One reason why birds and horses are not unhappy is because they are not trying to impress other birds and horses.”… Read more

The Road to Real Peace by John Cali

Where does the real peace we all say we want in our world come from? I love these two quotes:

“Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.” Buddha

“The only peace in all the world that is sustaining is internal peace. Let each person find peace within.” Neale Donald Walsch

John Cali

Inner peace is an issue people often discuss with us, usually because they’re wondering how they can find it in their lives.

I realize it can be challenging to find and maintain inner peace in the midst of the increasingly dramatic and frequent changes in our world today.… Read more

Spiritual Teachers by John Cali

I recently read a great article by Ed & Deb Shapiro called Are You a Spiritual Window Shopper?

John Cali

The Miriam-Webster Dictionary’s definition of “window-shop” is “to look at the displays in retail store windows without going inside the stores to make purchases.”

The term has taken on a new slant these days with so many people wanting to know who they are and why they’re here. There are plenty of spiritual teachers out there, many of them excellent. And some wanting to convince us their way is the only way.… Read more

Grief by John Cali

A little over five years ago my sister Christine’s husband Dick died at a relatively young age, after a ten-year struggle with a devastating disease.

John Cali

Dick and Christine were happily married for 26 years. Dick, a warm, caring man, was a beloved family member. He was like a brother to me. As you’d expect, everyone was sad and there was the usual grieving.

But even at the funeral, instead of focusing on Dick’s illness and death, we talked about his life, the wonderful memories over so many years, all the happiness he and Christine had found together.… Read more

Count Your Blessings by John Cali

I’m sure most of you have heard that before. Even as a little child I can recall my parents often telling me to be grateful for all our family had — just count your blessings, they said.
John Cali

As those of you in the USA know, Thursday this week is Thanksgiving Day. For those of you who don’t, this is the country’s yearly celebration of giving thanks, or counting our blessings.

Spirit and I have talked about this subject in several newsletters over the years.

Self-Love by John Cali

A Gallup poll a while back reported 2 out of 3 Americans suffer from low self-esteem and, presumably, a lack of self-love. That’s nearly 70 percent of the USA’s population!

The poll didn’t talk about other countries, but I’d guess it’s about the same as in the United States.

There’s been a steady, years-long stream of folks suffering from a lack of self-love and self-esteem coming to us for private sessions with Spirit. There have also been some of my close family and friends who’ve talked with me about their lack of self-love and self-esteem.… Read more

Ann (not her real name) has a high-profile job. Highly paid too. She’s been very successful in her chosen profession for all her adult life. In her work she gets to travel all over the world to places most folks only dream about.

Ann and her husband are happily married and have a successful business, which he runs since she’s gone so much.… Read more

Celebrate What’s Right with the World by John Cali

Last week’s newsletter article, Happiness Revisited, generated some interesting feedback directed to me, and also a lively discussion at our Spirit Forum.
John Cali

It was clear, from the feedback and discussion, different people have widely different opinions of what happiness is. Some questioned whether true happiness can be sustained — or achieved, even if only momentarily. Especially in today’s world. So many people, instead of celebrating what’s right with the world, complain about what’s wrong with it.

As “coincidence” would have it, after we published the newsletter last week, I came across a video called Celebrate What’s Right with the World.Read more

Thanksgiving by John Cali

In two days the USA will celebrate its annual Thanksgiving holiday. For most Americans it’s an important celebration, and the prelude to the December holiday season.

Thanksgiving, as the name indicates, is about giving thanks for all the blessings we have in our lives. Leaders, political and religious, urge us to be grateful for the good we enjoy, usually things such as our health, homes, families, friends, jobs, etc.… Read more

In his brilliant best-selling book, Illusions, Richard Bach said “We teach best what we most need to learn.” I had a minor, but painful, reminder of this recently.

Spirit and I are forever telling people it doesn’t matter what other people think or say about you, especially if it’s critical or destructive. All that matters is what you think of yourself.

The details of my painful experience don’t matter. What does matter is I allowed myself to get upset by a remark about my channelling from someone I love and respect.… Read more

Two Men on the Trail by John Cali

This past USA presidential Inauguration Day I was out walking on the trail where I usually jog. It was such a beautiful mid-winter’s day, I wanted to enjoy it before arctic weather descended upon us once again.

With the holiday season approaching, I find my thoughts drifting back to my faraway family and old-time friends. And to my many warm memories of long-ago holiday celebrations.

“Home” for me had always been the small farm town in rural western New York State where I grew up. Even though in my younger years I moved around a lot — all over the USA and the world — that was always my home.

I never felt “at home” anywhere except my hometown.… Read more

Life Among the Wild Dandelions by John Cali

Another weird article title from yours truly. But if you’ve been with us very long you ought to be used to that by now. 😉

John Cali

Almost everywhere I’ve lived in this lifetime, I’ve had wild dandelions all around me every spring. Wyoming is no exception.

I love dandelions, even though most folks consider them pesky weeds. The flowers are pretty to look at and, believe it or not, they make great wine. The leaves are delicious as a salad with a little olive oil and vinegar, or as steamed greens.… Read more

Pain and Suffering by John Cali

Are pain and suffering punishment for our misdeeds? If you believe they are, is it because of God — or karma — or what or who?

John Cali

A good friend sent me an article she recently wrote, Wondering Why We Suffer. Here’s a short excerpt from her article:

. . . why do we suffer? What is the point in it all if not simply to learn we do it to ourselves? . . . It really isn’t ok to suffer, truly it isn’t.… Read more

Spirit often talks about joy as the foundation of our lives. This week we’re responding to one of our reader’s feedback on our April 2 article, “The Gift of Joy.” If you want to see that article again, here it is.

Here is our reader’s letter, followed by part of my response to her:

“I re-read your articles on Joy. Of course, I have read them before but as humans, we like things tough.

“I myself am currently going through a dark time.

One evening not long ago, I was confronting a personal issue that was creating some inner turmoil and sadness for me. The details don’t matter. But the way Spirit responded to me does matter.

Late that evening, just before sunset, I went out to the little wooden deck behind my house. I could see the mountains all around. Some of the higher peaks were still covered with the snowfall of several days earlier. The sky was grey and overcast, and it matched my dark mood.Read more

A Dog Story by John Cali

We can all probably think of people in our lives whose presence uplifts us. We always feel good in their company.

Last week I was shopping in one of the local stores. Just after I arrived, one of the young ladies who works there came in with her dog. (Life is pretty informal out here in these little western towns. As in Europe, people don’t mind if you bring your dog into a store.)

The dog was a tiny black bundle of fur — she was about eight or nine inches tall, and couldn’t have weighed more than three or four pounds.Read more

What Makes You Happy? by John Cali
