Am I Doing It Right? by John Cali and Spirit

If I had to live my life again, I’d make the same mistakes, only sooner. ~ Tallulah Bankhead

This week’s post, for a couple personal reasons, is short.

Have you ever wondered if you were doing something right, perhaps in a moment of self-doubt? Maybe you’re afraid to do anything for fear of making mistakes.

And so you do nothing. But isn’t that also is a mistake?

My spirit guides often say none of us has ever made a mistake. That sounds like a strange statement. But I’ve finally come to believe it, years after they first said it.

Nonetheless, most of us at least occasionally question ourselves and our decisions. I recently came across this simple, three-part test from Deepak Chopra:

When you are questioning or doubting something you’ve chosen to do, ask yourself three questions:

  • Is it easy?
  • Is it fun?
  • Am I getting results?

If you can answer “Yes” to all three questions, then you’re doing the right thing.

Nothing difficult about that, is there?

I have a simple, yet powerful statement posted above my desk, and I repeat it every day:

Everything always works out for me.

Since I’ve been using that statement, literally everything does work out for me, one way or another. Try it—you’ll like it.

We’re going to end today’s post on a light note. Enjoy these hilarious mistakes:

My favorite statement is in Swedish, but I’ll try to translate it so you get the general idea. 🙂

“If you don’t try (to open) closed doors, you can be locked up in an unlocked room.”

Thanks for this John. The idea that there are no mistakes is a new idea for me but I’m loving it! For someone who has always seemed to learn the hard way, as the saying goes, by making every mistake possible, it is very liberating to have learnt to laugh at myself. However, mistakes that seem to have serious consequences are not so easily dealt with. However lessons learnt are good in the big scheme of things and I can see that, in that sense there are no mistakes.

We are trying to put it into practice where I work so no one is berated when a mistake seems to happen and we look for the lesson. I feel so blessed to be in a working environment where colleagues share this understanding.

I am old school, used to working in feet and inches, and get confused with centimetres and bought us a brand new projector that was way too big!!! We had a good laugh and were able to return it and I now use an inches to cm convertor!!!

    Hope you are ok John.
    Take care

      You’re most welcome, Margaret.

As you said, if we learn something from our “mistakes” then they truly are not mistakes — just steps on our path to greater growth and love.

You certainly work in an enlightened environment! It would be great if all working places were that enlightened and forward-thinking.

I’m fine, Margaret — thanks so much for your concern. I just had a few distractions this past week, Nothing serious. All is well.

      Love, John

I have one “I always fall on my feet.” Just like a cat. Nothing keeps me down, nothing holds me back, everything works out for me.

It’s only when I forget this I start doubting.

I don’t believe there are any mistakes, we live, we love, we go on.

There is a song, long ago with this phrase:

Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again!

    love and hugs
    Jeannie
