Rising Above the Clouds

When we contemplate the whole globe as one great dewdrop, striped and dotted with continents and islands, flying through space with other stars all singing and shining together as one, the whole universe appears as an infinite storm of beauty. ~ John Muir

Many years ago I was a commercial pilot. I’ve always loved flying, and still do.

One of the things I love most about it is that exhilaration I always feel as the plane is rising above the clouds and up into the sky. It’s a thrill like none other I’ve ever experienced.

The initial exhilaration is nearly always followed by a deep sense of peace, with a spectacular view of the clouds and the earth below. Everything looks and feels different. It’s all so beautiful from that high perspective. You never want to go back to earth again. Up there you can see everything with crystal clarity.

Spirit

What Johnny just described is similar to what many people experience when they make that transition you call death.

When you move out of your apparently  solid physical bodies, you see everything differently.

For one thing, you are no longer seeing with your physical eyes. Your physical eyes are adept at seeing, obviously,  physical reality. The thing is physical reality is not reality. It’s only something you have created through your perceptions. And your perceptions carry the same limitations your physical bodies do.

When you decide to leave your bodies (and you all do make that decision), you see with “new eyes.” You see with the eyes of Spirit. You see as God sees.

Your new “eyes” have a far greater range of “vision” than your physical eyes ever had.

You are rising above the clouds, the clouds of so-called physical reality. In physical reality you see, to borrow some words from your Saint Paul, “through a glass darkly.”

But when you’re rising above the clouds, above the density of physical life, you see clearly. You see the “real” reality that lies beyond your physical reality. It’s a reality many humans only rarely, if at all, can glimpse while in the physical.

But you do not have to wait till you leave your bodies to achieve that glorious, unlimited reality that lies beyond the veil of your earthly vision.

This is beautiful wisdom and your words have brought joy to my life today. Thanks you—John and spirit.
Be well and stay warm in the snowstorm. Here in Los Angeles, we’ve had four months of almost continual rain, which is miraculous!

    • John Cali

You’re most welcome, Patricia. I’m delighted it brought you joy. We can all use more of that!

It’s warmed up a bit here, but winter is far from over. It can last till May in this high country. 🙂

I’ve seen the news about all your rain. I lived in your area many years ago. The first winter I spent there, we had lots of rain and flooding. But I think this year must be a record for you. At least it’s put a good dent in your drought. As you said, it’s miraculous!

I believe that Spirit does not intend to belittle our physical reality one bit.
This reality is very challenging and also very rewarding. It was created for a very good reason and the conditions, as negative as some are, provide us with wonderful opportunities to learn and expand.

Many years later I still remember fondly the movie ¨Wings Over Berlin ¨ with Peter Falk which dealt with the appreciation of Spirit for what might seem to us as trivial thoughts and decisions.

Thank you very much for jumpstarting me with your articles.

    • Ron Brissson

Correction, the film was ¨ . Der Himmel über Berlin (original title) 1987 Director: Wim Wenders ¨ which was then renamed for English translation eventually as ¨Wings Of Desire¨..

Thanks very much, Ron, for your great comments — and your kind words.I hadn’t heard of that film — I’ll check it out.

I’m inspired by the comments here. Thanks all. Love, George

I absolutely love that last sentence, and I can’t wait for the continued discussion.
We truly have no limitations unless we allow them, so why wait for crossing over. Take it now! There is so much to see and love and be grateful for in what we see “above the clouds.”
The beauty of creation, all of creation, melts the negative out of your mind. All you want and feel is the oneness with all that is, all you are able to see. Even the utterly silent, darkness in space is supportive in Divine Love. The bliss you feel is the true reality.

    Love and blessings to all.

Thank you, Mikala, for your comments. Neither can I wait to hear what they’ll say in the continued discussion. 🙂 I love your last sentence, “The bliss you feel is the true reality.”

John, my first grandson graduated from college yesterday and his gift from his parents is a trip to Italy. The three of them are leaving tonight. I want them to enjoy the trip but I’m seeing “through a glass darkly” with all that’s going on today. Your words today will help me get through the next two weeks until they’re home safely. Thank you, John.

    Love,
    Toni

    • John Cali

      Hi Toni,

I understand your concern, especially — as you said — with what’s going on in the world today. I have family and friends who regularly travel around the world. So I feel your concern too. I’ll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Please let me know your family gets home safely from Italy — as I’m sure they will. Just email me at john@greatwesternpublishing.org

      Love,
      John

      • Toni Desrocher

John, you are such a dear. Thank you for keeping my family in your prayers. I put a note on my computer to let you know when they’re home. I love you, John.

        • John Cali

Thank you, Toni. I’ll look forward to hearing when they’re home. I love you too, Toni.

    • John Cali

      Hi Maria,

Thanks very much for your comments and your kind words.

I think many of us grew up with a fear of death. After all, our society considers death the end, an utter failure. But I’m delighted to hear you’ve grown beyond that fear, and that you found comfort in Rising Above the Clouds.

Much love to you also, my dear, and big hugs,
      John
