Can We Connect With Spirits of the Dead?

The artist alone sees spirits. But after he has told of their appearing to him, everybody sees them. ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

A while back, someone on Quora, a question-and-answer forum, asked if it was possible to connect with the spirits of dead people. Here’s the answer we gave, slightly edited:

You are already connected to the spirits of the “dead,” at least those who were close to you in life. And they want to communicate with you. You can use those tools you mention (using their photos or things that belonged to them, EVP recorders, etc.). But there’s another way which, in our opinion, is the best way—your intuition, your gut feelings.

Get into a quiet place where you will not be disturbed or distracted. Focus on the spirit you wish to connect with. Ask him or her to send you a sign they wish to communicate with you. Then simply trust the sign will come. It can come in various ways, even in a seeming “coincidence.”

For example, you may find a book that resonates with you and holds an important message for you from the person whose spirit you want to contact. You may hear a song that reminds you of that person. You can even hold a conversation with the person, or their spirit, in your “imagination.” That is just as real as a conversation you may have with another human being.

There are many ways to communicate with spirits. And know this—they want to communicate with you as much as you want to communicate with them. Despite the apparent separation between the “living” and the “dead,” there truly is none. That veil is an illusion, created by you. It does not exist.

Just experiment with what works for you. Trust the process. And, above all, have fun! (Many spirits have a great sense of humor.)

Postscript

On the night of Friday, September 26, 2014, one of my favorite uncles came to me from spirit. Despite my many years of talking with spirits, especially my spirit guides, I’d never thought to contact my uncle. So he contacted me!

This has been my experience over many years. When spirits want to talk with us (if we are open to it), they often take the initiative.

“Coincidentally,” that same Friday night, my uncle also visited Jennifer, a lifelong friend of mine. Jennifer’s father and my uncle had been close friends, and apparently continued their friendship when they both returned to spirit. Jennifer’s family, her husband’s family, and my family were good friends while we were all growing up. They shared the bond of having been Italian immigrants to our little hometown in New York State.

So, as I said above, those in spirit want to communicate with us as much as we want to communicate with them.

Josie Grouse is a delightful and talented channel for Spirit. Here she is explaining 3 ways the spirits communicate with you. You don’t need a medium or psychic or channel to connect with spirits. You can do it all yourself.

I’ve never had a problem with talking/listening with spirit. As for family members, they just come to me if they have something to say. For example, my Dad usually arrives when I am feeling some kind of fear, and usually that was when I was driving in a heavy snow storm with icy roads. I can feel his energy and I know it is him, sitting in the seat beside me. In that case, he always reminds me that he taught me to face fear and not to be afraid of anything – ever, and then he makes me laugh, which makes all the tensed up muscles relax and I’m not afraid any more.

I also call upon Spirit (angels, archangels, ascended masters etc.) for various advice or support, or just have them stand next to me for comfort. As soon as you think their name, they are there. And yes, John, sometimes they are very funny. Once I was told, “What, you can’t figure this out yourself?” And I know you remember Daisy, a cherub who sits on my shoulder. She is always funny.

I think it is a matter of accepting that such communication is quite normal if you just relax into it, and don’t expect human speech, but rather information that comes through your brain or heart.

    Blessings to all,
    Mikala

      Thanks very much, Mikala.

Everyone can communicate with Spirit as you do. As you say, spirit communication is quite normal. And it’s always available to all of us. But we must, first, believe it’s possible—and, second, simply be open to it. If we build the belief and openness, they will come.

Yes, I do remember Daisy. She’s delightful. She is proof that spirits have a sense of humor.

I just became aware of the “Spirits of the Dead” heading. Those who have left the body are not dead. Perhaps that is the understanding needed for many to try to communicate.

I agree — those who have left their physical bodies are not dead. They are more alive than most of those still in bodies. But, as you accurately guessed, my intent in choosing that title was to make clear what we were going talk about in the post.
