Are You a Student or a Teacher? by John Cali and Spirit

Many years ago one of the first spiritual books I ever read was Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach, the legendary pilot and author.

In that book is one of my favorite quotations: “We teach best what we most need to learn.”

When I read that I had to stop and think about it. After all, I’d been a teacher for years. But I’d never thought of myself as a teacher and a student.

Since then I’ve realized, given the work I now do, I am as much a student as I am a teacher. I learn as much, or more, from all of you, our readers, as you do from me. It truly is a two-way street.

Spirit

What do you consider yourselves—students or teachers? Or perhaps, at different times, both—one time, the teacher—another time, the student.

What if we said you are neither?

It’s true. You are not a student, nor are you a teacher. What you are is a creator.

Creators are neither students nor teachers. Though, while they are in human form, they may assume the role of one or both at times.

Let’s examine what a teacher is—what a student is.

No teacher can tell you anything you do not already know—at least at some level of your awareness. No student can learn from his/her teacher anything she/he does not already know at some level.

So what is a teacher-student relationship all about?

It’s about remembering—remembering who you really are. You who are teachers have nothing to teach your students. You who are students have nothing to learn from your teachers.

Whether you’re a teacher or a student, you already know it all! There is absolutely no level of knowledge you do not already have access to. You may not have a full conscious awareness of what you really know. But what you know, at your soul level, is infinite.

The knowledge is there. And it is always available to you, even in your human form, if you will but remember you are the creator of all your experience.

Your purpose in coming together as teachers and students—it doesn’t matter whether you consider yourselves one or the other or both—is to remind one another of one solitary fact:

There is nothing to seek, nothing to find. It’s all already there within you. You literally know it all.

You come together, whether in a student-teacher relationship—or any other relationship—only to remind each other of the divine within yourselves.

This enclosed came through as part of ” Matthew’s Messages this evening, and I thought I’d share because it so resonates. I’d heard it before but seeing just now is very good timing.

    Love,

    Martha

“The accomplishment of Dr. Hew Len, formerly a psychologist at a hospital for the criminally insane in Hawaii, is a stunning example of ho’oponopono’s efficacy. Instead of seeing patients during the couple of years he was there, he stayed in his office, sometimes looking at their files, and repeating over and over and over “I’m sorry. Please forgive me. I love you. Thank you.” By his accepting responsibility for the patients’ status—in essence, acknowledging the inseparable connection of all souls and that whatever one does affects all others—they started improving and continued until they were healed and released.”

    I’M SORRY.
    PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
    I LOVE YOU.
    THANK YOU.

Yes. . . Creators all. It’s a level playing ground.
ACIM says, “We are students and teachers of each other”.
My ego has a tendency to see myself as a teacher and the people in my family and in the world ( the button pushers) who are in my view still asleep as students ( if ONLY they would listen to me…;-)).

    HA!!
When in fact, THESE people are my GREATEST teachers!

IF ((and that is a Big IF)) I am humble and awake enough to get the “lesson”.

When you stop to consider that we all chose these roles before incarnating and are each of us CREATING the PERFECT scenarios for our own soul growth/expansion/awareness.

ABRAHAM taught me that we are all CREATORS and ever since then I have thought of EARTH as CREATION SCHOOL. The key is learning how to take responsibility for my vibration so that I can be a DELIBERATE CREATOR instead of a NON DELIBERATE one.

YES – YOU ARE THAT POWERFUL.

THERE’s no ” OUT THERE” – only “IN HERE”.
Everything in my field is my creation.

    ALL OF IT.

This has been a hard one for me to really embrace because I was so traumatized as a child and fhe effects have been lifelong. But maybe if children were taught the LAWS OF CREATION in school, at home, this could have been avoided.

One thing I know is TRUE.
LOVE IS THE ANSWER TO EVERY QUESTION.

HERE’S TO BEING A KNOW IT ALL!!

    ;-))

    Love,

    Martha

Thanks again, Martha. I agree with you — love is the answer to every question, and every problem.

Loving the new look website, John!! The colours are very harmonious.

What a fascinating post, John. As you may know,I was a teacher for many years, working mostly with very able children in a middle class area. I enjoyed the job but never had much time for the children with Special Needs, I’m a little embarrassed to admit. Then I had a child with special needs and my whole world changed. I am now working with children with a wide range of special needs and I feel very much the student but a student of MYSELF really. I am developing qualities which have been hidden over the years and I am very grateful to the children for their role as catalyst.

The way I see it, we are a work in progress in human form, even though in spirit we are fully conscious, and everything and everyone are our teachers just as we are teachers to everyone and anyone we meet. Every precious relationship and situation always has a hidden gift, a shining gem within. We just have to find that gift. We are creators and we are remembering. Who and what we are.

    Blessings to you, John.

      Thank you very much, Sarah!

Sounds like you’re doing wonderful work there with the children — work that I’m sure is greatly needed.

      God bless you, my dear!

      • Sarah D

It is rewarding work but I see the children in a whole different light. I used to have great pity, but now I have great respect when I understand that each child chose this incarnation for whatever reason.

I loved that book too, have it also have the Messiah’s Hand Book: Reminder for the Advanced Soul (also by Richard Bach).
I had a dream and in that dream I knew so much then I awoke and it dissolved into my cells and bones and blood. All that knowledge just waiting for me to actualize when the needs be.

    love and hugs
    Jeannie

Thanks very much, Jeannie. I keep the “Messiah’s Handbook” beside my be, and read it often — it’s a great book if you just need a “pick-me-up.”

Love & hugs back to you!

John, Promises were made two thousand years ago, and the full impact has been ignored or brushed aside, and we have been taught, “You are not worthy~!”, by those who claimed “spiritual / religious authority” over us.
We are created as Divine Beings. But for purposes of control, greed and avarice, among other things, we have been damned as not worthy, and as sinful creatures, who need to crawl and beg for the Attention of God.
YET, it is written in the Holy Bible, the following points.
We are created in God’s Image.
God is Spirit, and must be worshiped in Spirit and in Truth (We cannot worship in a manner that we are not, therefore, we must be spirit and truth ourselves~!)
We are gods, called so by God Himself.
The Holy Spirit will teach us all things, AND bring all things to remembrance that The Christ Himself taught.
The works of the Christ we shall be able to do, and MORE, if we believe in His Teachings (Believe in Him)

The only thing we lack at this time is MATURITY~!, just as a young child lacks the maturity of the parent. Otherwise, there is no difference in Value.

The New Age, as such, is not really new, if only we did not give up our power of seeking and knowledge to those whose agenda is not in our best interests.

But that we have done, and lined the pockets of avarice with gold, for two thousand years, and more.

BUT~! There are those who are awakening, indeed.

God Bless You and your work, John. Have a Blessed Day.

Thanks very much, Conshana, for sharing your comments and your wisdom. There is so much “good news” in the Bible. But, as you said, some of it has been distorted and manipulated for all the wrong reasons.

God bless you too, my dear friend and brother,
      John

Language, at times, makes discussion more difficult. I think of teaching and learning as sharing information. I may not have encountered some information that hasn’t crossed my path as yet, so I seek that information from who or whatever can share it. That includes people, animals, nature, Spirit, or within. The same is true of others who have questions for which they are seeking answers they may be having difficulties finding. And it’s not really teaching and learning as much as support and direction so the path or way may be found again within. If you are feeling a bit lost, you stop and ask directions.

We all have all the answers inside, but access to all that information is not always available.

Being ONE of the ONE, we share, and then we use discernment to decide if the information fits our own pathway.

    Mikala

    • John Cali

Thank you very much, Mikala, for your comments and observations. I love the way you put it so beautifully — “…it’s not really teaching and learning as much as support and direction so the path or way may be found again WITHIN. (my emphasis) If you are feeling a bit lost, you stop and ask directions.”

      Blessings,
      John

  7. Damian

Greetings John, and as usual, you never cease to amaze me with your timing and wisdom. I’ve always seen myself as a teacher and a student. I’ve always believed that when the student is ready, the teacher will come. Words I’ve lived by for some time now. When my marriage was in trouble I found a Shaman. He showed me the burdens I was carrying around. While out in the desert, two crows flew near by. One started to circle, but the other flew right over my head. I watched it till it disappeared, and looked back to find the other, which was also gone. I remember thinking, at that moment, how I felt about my wife. I knew, right then, that she would leave. I had my own path to follow.
He, the Shaman, told me later that he had to come up with a way to show me how to release my burdens. So, yes, I believe that we all have something to teach and to learn, and when we are ready, we will find each other. Now, I would of said so we can teach each other and learn, but now I see that we find each other so we can co-create, which I am starting to realize is what I have always wanted to do, co-create with someone.
Again, thank you John and Spirit for your words and wisdom. Damian.

    • John Cali

Hi Damian — thank you very much for sharing your story. It’s always amazed me how much we can learn (and teach) if we only just pay attention to what’s going on in our lives.

The school of life is always in session. Attendance is mandatory; learning is not.
