One of Spirit’s most frequent recommendations to folks we do private readings with is to meditate. I’ve been meditating over 30 years, and it’s literally changed my life.
I took a spiritual development class in 1980, and that’s where I learned to meditate. I’d been interested in meditation before that, but never found much information on how to do it — at least information that appealed to me.
At this point in my life, I’m healthier and happier than I’ve ever been. I credit much of that to my daily meditation practice.
Studies have shown stress causes the cells of our bodies to age faster. Hence the entire body ages faster when we’re stressed out. Meditation, among its many other benefits, reduces stress and actually slows down physical aging.
The other potential benefits are too many to count. Here are a few:
- Gives you greater inner peace
- Creates a more positive outlook on life
- Increases your sense of well-being
- Heals past traumas (or, if you like, karma)
- Cures drug, alcohol, and other addictions
- Strengthens the immune system
- Reduces anxiety attacks
There are different ways to meditate. I found it’s important to not get caught up in specific techniques, especially if they don’t feel right for you. Just do whichever feels good and works for you. Meditation should not be complicated or feel like hard work.
Here’s what Spirit has to say about mediation.
Meditation is a powerful, easy-to-use tool you all have available. As John said, it does not have to be complicated or difficult.
And it has many benefits. John listed a few. There is one he did not mention. Meditation takes you, literally, out of your mind.
You all know how busy your human minds can be. And how distracting, even distressing, that mental “busyness” can be.
After you’ve practiced meditation a while — it doesn’t have to be a long while — you’ll find it getting easier. You’ll even find it fun. You’ll look forward to it every day.
We would urge you to meditate regularly, if you don’t already do it. Just a few minutes a day will bring you great benefit. We’d recommend 15 to 30 minutes or so.
As far as technique goes, do whatever feels right for you, as John said. It can be as simple as focusing on your breathing. At first your mind may get in the way. Just notice it and then let it go, putting your focus back on your breathing again.
Meditation, even as simple a technique as that, will literally transform your life — your physical health, your relationships, your abundance — everything. You’ll find your life becoming more peaceful and joyful.
One other benefit we’d like to mention — this, in our view, is the greatest benefit.
Meditation gets you in closer touch with your soul or higher self. It aligns you with your source, with who you really are. You are all God. So it’s not an exaggeration to say meditation brings you into a closer relationship with God.
When you walk through your life “hand-in-hand” with God, all is well. You will know a deep joy like you’ve never known before in this lifetime.
