Are You Crazy If You’re An Optimist In Today’s World?

This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness. ~ The Dalai Lama

The United States appears to be suffering from a plague of senseless killing and heartrending sorrow—and a lack of ordinary human kindness, especially in the political turmoil gripping this country. Many people, not only in the US, but the world over, are in deep depression and grief over all this, and over the traumas occurring all over the planet. The latest, just two days ago on July 14, the French celebration of Bastille Day, was the mass murder of dozens of people in Nice, France.

There don’t seem to be many optimists around today. Sometimes my family or friends accuse me of being too optimistic, uninformed, or just plain crazy. I assure them I am none of those.

But how on earth can anyone be an optimist in this kind of world? Are you crazy if you are optimistic? Or are you just plain stupid?

I am aware of the world we have all chosen to live in. And that really is the point. I am aware of the “bad” news we’re all reminded of 30 hours a day, 8 days a week. After all, the media are mostly in the business of selling bad news. I only glance at the headlines, so I know what’s going on in the world. Then I ignore all the rest.

But I am also aware of all the events—the good news—that never make it to the mainstream media headlines. There is a lot of love, compassion, and kindness out there. But you never hear about that unless you go looking for it. Years ago, my spirit guides said this:

Your mainstream news media work hard at ferreting out everything that’s “wrong” with your planet. And then that’s all they talk about. If that’s all you pay attention to, you’re going to feel pretty awful about your life and your world.

Wouldn’t it be nice if there was some organization focused solely on bringing you good news?

(NOTE: Today there ARE at least several organizations doing exactly that. One is the Good News Network. While these organizations are outnumbered by the mainstream media, they are a growing and powerful presence. They will definitely boost your spirits.)

Wouldn’t it be nice if every morning, when you woke up, you could hear about all the things going right on the planet? All the good folks helping others less fortunate? All the doctors and healers succeeding at bringing their patients back to a state of perfect health? All the people succeeding financially? All the people who did not have traffic accidents today? And so on and on.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

Our point is there is far more good happening on your planet than there is bad. Good is dominant. Good news happens far more often than bad news. But bad news is all you ever hear about, isn’t it?

Well, you can change that right now. Just go looking for all the good news out there. You’ll feel better about yourself, other people, and your world. We’re not telling you to ignore the bad news. But don’t focus on it exclusively.

Also, know this: You are neither helpless nor useless in reaching out to the many hurting folks on the planet today. There are many things  you can do. But the best thing is to do all you can to stay peaceful—through meditation, prayer, affirmations—whatever works for you.

Know you will be making a difference. The energy and vibration of peace you create and maintain within yourself radiates out to the entire planet, and beyond. You may never see the results, but you will be making a positive difference to all humanity, to all life.

One person, standing alone in his or her peace and joy, is far more powerful than all those lashing out in their anger and sadness. One person, reaching out to another with kindness is far more powerful, than the many lashing out with cruelty.

    Hello John:
I haven’t responded to many of the recent questions asked here. Sometimes because my response would not contribute many thoughts. However, I felt compelled to answer to this one.
Are you one of those folks feeling hopeless and lost? NO. Are you riveted by the mainstream news headlines or the near-constant litany of sorrows paraded across the media? NO, BUT I KEEP INFORMED.
What can you do to move beyond all that?
I KNOW. I know I am a child of the Creator, and that the Creator has, if you will, a sort of map for all of creation, with those of us on Earth having the greatest free will. There is a Divine Reason for Earth to be what she is, and for us to figure out exactly what and who We are.
If one accepts our original creation as a spark from the heart of God, then we must also accept that as children of the Creator, we have a purpose. Our purpose is to return to the perfection of who we truly are. We are not here to fix others, or fix what others think, but to learn to love ourselves and understand that the perfection under which we were created continues to be existent. We need only to enter into our own Divine Hearts to discover that we are where we should be at this time. If we follow our hearts, are compassionate to others, realize our Divinity, join with companions who understand the same for world wide prayer and social interaction, keep ourselves strong in our beliefs, listen to our heart and intuition from within, we will understand and accept that the Creator is in control and those who are creating vicious and unthinkable horror are teaching us, showing us, what Earth would be without Creator in our lives. We have the challenge: can we hear of these things and still love our fellow man? Can we see destruction and continue to live in Divine Love? Are we strong enough and aware enough to accept that we are all part of the ONE? Can we forgive? Can we send out the energy of compassion to all? Is this not our purpose? To return to the Divinity/God we were created as? When we reach the answer “YES” to the above questions, we will have fulfilled our purpose and Eden will be ours.

    You know this John.
    With great love for all,
    Micki

Thanks again John and spirit ,this message is surely needed in the world today
I think in these times we both have to do our own work and do the best we can making our contribution to lift conciousness and the worlds energy and lend a hand when and where we can
Even if it’s just online community among like minds we can stand and work together to overcome the odds
Pessimism is rife of course in today’s world, but as Wayne dyer said something like optimism is what gets things done and moves things forward
One thing I’ve been finding very insightful to these times is Arnold j toynbees work on a study of history and civilisation their rise and demise, just look him up on Wikipedia
He talked about a dominant minority I’d the establishment the prof diarist or something and the creative minority who actually create new possibilities and change and a new spirituality for a renewed society a sort of Renaissance effect
Anyway I just though I’d shard that
Also Joseph Campbell’s work is great , been listening to his free lectures on Spotify talks about these things
He was first inspired by native Americans and studying them and their myths, he did the power of myth with Bill Meyers before departing into the unseen world
His work is a great study of the worlds religions no myths etc
Also recommend sadhguru the Indian mystic whose doing great work and very active in improving the world
Both have lots of great stuff on YouTube
Also you might want to check out James red fields work he’s working on his new book now, celestinevision.com
He wrote the famous celestinevision prophecy
I hope your work is progressing well..still interested in your book and if there’s going to be another tuning in sequel
Anyway whatever helps and we al, have our part and purpose to play in life’s unfolding
Another recommendation Ernest Holmes work with the science of mind he set up, his books and work are powerful nod fascinating ..the origins of a lot of the law of attraction, new thought, new age ideas
Also manly hall is worth checking out on YouTube etc
Anyway thanks for your inspiring messages
You might also want to check out watkinsbooks they do mindbodyspirit magazine for this kind of thing and sell and publish great spiritual and esoteric books
    Well worth the look
Anyway wishing you luck with everything
May the one life and great spirit bless you with all good things!
    Thanks john

Thanks very much, Joseph, for your comments and recommendations — and for your kind words about our work.

As to our book, I know it’s been a long time in coming. But I believe everything happens in the perfect time and perfect way. I should be publishing it within less than a year. I will, of course, keep all of you updated. And there will be a second book right behind that one.

Will there be another Tuning In sequel? I don’t know. It’s up to David Thomas, the filmmaker of the first 2 Tuning In films. But I will let everyone know if it happens.

      Many blessings to you, Joseph,
      John
