Johnny and I used to have question and answer sessions with Spirit and one question I once asked was:
“In breathing exercises, it is important to also focus on the moment between the end of the out-breath and the next in-breath. There is a silence then. And I am fascinated by this nothingness, and I thought perhaps you can tell me more about that moment”.
Spirit
That’s a good question. From our perspective, we see that breathing, conscious breathing especially, is such a powerful tool for humans because when you breathe in and breathe out, as you said, there is that quiet space.
Breathing, obviously, is a physical act that you do with your body. But when you consciously focus on your breath, you begin to notice that quiet space between breaths.
What you’re doing, to put it in a somewhat dramatic way, is touching the hand of God. In that quiet, perhaps very short time in human terms– that still space between breaths—you move, even if only for a brief moment, into something beyond the physical. Sometimes that moment is not so brief. It can feel extended, at least in human terms.
Berna
Yes, I noticed that I could increase that time quite easily. And I thought, perhaps that is the field where you are when you are not in the body.
Spirit
Exactly! That’s it.
You are still in the body, of course. But your consciousness, your awareness, moves more fully into the realm of spirit—which is where you all exist anyway. You simply happen to have a physical body at this moment. In that quiet interval, you move back into the realms of spirit.
And that is what that interim stillness is. It is not really time at all. It is beyond time.
It is good to focus on that, because that is who you really are. You are not merely human, nor are you simply a physical body. It is your spirit who happens to have a physical body at the moment. But that is not who you are. It is not your identity.
So, when you have these brief intervals of quiet peace, of a sense of wonder and joy, you are, to use that phrase again, touching the hand of God at that point. You return to who you truly are for few brief moments. Not that you ever truly left—but you return to that awareness consciously.
That is all it is.
It’s a great awareness that you have of this, because many humans don’t have that. They know there’s something going on there, but they have no idea what the hell it is. But you do. So yes, during that time, you are truly touching the hand of God and touching the hand of your higher self, returning home to who you truly are.

Thank you, Johnny. I’m getting better as breathing and meditating have been challenging, for me, at times. This description by Spirit gives an even deeper understanding of what I’m experiencing.

Thanks very much, Pat. I think breathing and meditating are challenges for many. But, in my personal experience–as the old saying goes–practice makes perfect. The more you do it, the easier it gets.
I hope all is well with you.
Pat
Yes, Johnny, practice always makes perfect. Thank you. All is well here and hope the same for you.
Jerry
Excellent reminder during these times. Thanks so much
John Cali
Thanks very much, Jerry. These are challenging times. But breathing and meditating are powerful tools for dealing with our modern world.
