You Are Perfect by John Cali

Do you believe you are perfect, just as you are right here, right now?

Our last blog post, Learning To Love Yourself, received some great comments from our readers – comments posted on our website and emailed to me personally. The video in that post featured Benjamin Smythe. He’s quite an amazing guy.

Here’s another video, You Are Perfect, in which an Austrian journalist interviews Benjamin. While I don’t agree with all he says, it’s fascinating and thought-provoking.

This is a very interesting interview. And, yes, it is very thought provoking. I need to listen to it again. But, the perfection question has always been difficult for me. I feel that from the view of “the big picture” yes everything is perfect. Even perfect in it’s seeming imperfection. But, is saying one is perfect as a person, does that mean we can’t improve ourselves? I know there are things I need to improve about myself. Does that make me imperfect? These things are confusing to me. I like what he says about “killing the ego”. How do you “kill” the ego without committing suicide? The ego is part of who we are.

Thank you, Deborah, for your comments.

I agree with you on this perfection thing. My spirit guides have often said what you did — everything (and everyone) are perfect in their imperfection. To me, it’s more a matter of semantics than anything else. After all, perfection is a subjective thing — what some consider perfect others would consider imperfect, and vice versa.

I too like what he said about the ego. So many spiritual folks talk about “killing” the ego, or repressing it, or whatever — as if it was some dark evil part of us we need to destroy. As you said, it’s part of who we are. And, in my opinion, we need to embrace and love it (and all other parts of ourselves) before we can return to the wholeness we all are.
