Are You Allowing Life To Touch You?

If you’re paying much attention to the mainstream news media today, you’re aware, perhaps painfully so, of all the turmoil and chaos in our world today. If you’re paying too much attention, scientists call that “doomscrolling.”

Personally, Berna and I pay little attention to the mainstream news—only enough so we know a bit about current events.

A recent article we read reported researchers had concluded exposure to negative news is a “source of vicarious trauma.” In other words, people are dangerously affected despite not experiencing trauma first-hand.… Read more

Doomed To Worry

Berna and I don’t pay much attention to the mainstream news media. Though we do glance briefly at the headlines so we know what’s going on in today’s world. No doubt, it’s a tough world to navigate these days.

A recent trend that’s caught our attention is using the word “worry” in news headlines. For example, “Should we worry about (fill in the blanks here — viruses, artificial intelligence, polluted water, etc. etc.)?”

As if people didn’t have enough to think about, and now the news media tells you what you should worry about.Read more

Struggle Is Useless

Ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu had an interesting philosophy:
Effort and struggle are useless.

That’s just the opposite of Western society’s credo:
Success always depends on hard work and struggle.

So who’s right?

Spirit

As you know, you all create your own reality. Everything—no exceptions—in your physical human experience is there because you created it and put it there.

We realize that’s a tough one for humans to accept. But take comfort in knowing your higher self, or soul-self if you prefer, can take anything you have manifested (job loss, car accident, divorce, etc.)Read more

Hard Work

I recently read an interview with a millennial worker. (The millennial generation were born in the last two decades of the 20th century.)

The worker talked about how she put all she had, all she was, into her work. In her words, “I am so obsessed  with reaching…success…that I’ve forgotten how to actually enjoy life.” (Emphasis added)

Her work had become her God.

Spirit

In your modern world, particularly in Western society, you have replaced the real God with a false god.Read more

The Power of Kindness

In today’s crazy, chaotic world, it can be hard to show kindness to those folks around us. But it always pays off, one way or another, whether we see the results or not. Kindness is true power.

Spirit

You often feel powerless in your lives, especially when you witness such events as you see in your mainstream news media almost daily. After all, they specialize in the “bad stuff.”

But is bad stuff all there is on your planet? Of course not.Read more

About Prana and Food, Follow-Up

Question:
What is the most effective way to take in prana (God energy)?

Spirit

Prana is all around you. You can’t avoid it. It is God energy. You enhance the intake of it when you pay conscious attention to it—when you deliberately seek to enhance it to energize your physical and mental well-being. You can even heal, yourself and others, instantly.

The most effective way to take in prana varies with the individual. You have to discover this for yourself. Focusing on your breathing is one way.Read more

Teach Only Selfishness

Today we’re revisiting a post we wrote years ago.

Spirit

How often have you heard it said “Think only of others.” – “Love others unconditionally.” – “Put others before yourself.” – “Be of service to others.” – etc. etc.?

Those are noble-sounding sentiments. But they will guarantee you a life of misery and joylessness.

Many times, you’ve heard us, and others, say you cannot serve another unless you first serve yourself, you cannot love another if you do not first love yourself.Read more

Is the Virus Vaccine Poisoning You?

One of our readers recently wrote us asking about the possible poisonous effects of the virus vaccine. Since many people have the same concerns, we’re including parts of his letter in today’s post, with his permission.

The following is a discussion between Berna and Spirit about the letter, slightly edited.

Berna
Johnny and I have been talking about this subject many times.

It started when I started to doubt whether to get the vaccination or not, for various reasons. In my case, I had contrasting thoughts.Read more

Daylight Saving Time

As you probably know, so-called daylight saving time has begun in most of the United States. It began a bit later in Europe.

I have never been a fan of the twice-yearly time switch. I know the arguments for and against it. But it never made much sense to me. In fact, I love these words from a wise old Native American:

Only a white man would believe you could cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and have a longer blanket.Read more

Respect For Others’ Opinions

We’re living in a contentious era of disrespect and disregard for others’ opinions, especially if they do not agree with ours. Do you have a hard time talking with someone who does not agree with you?

Spirit

Although this is rapidly changing, many of you still struggle with speaking with those whose ideas, lifestyles, and opinions are different from yours.

Today we’re asking you to ask yourselves why this is. And what you can do about it. We’ll give you a few of our ideas here.Read more

Sickness and Healing: Follow-Up

Several people questioned our statement in the Sickness and Healing post a couple weeks ago. The statement:

“…as spirit embodied physically, you live in the illusion of linear time…. healing can appear to take time. But rest assured, the moment you ask, in that moment, you are permanently healed.

Those ideas did not originate with us. You will find them, and related ideas, at least several times in A Course In Miracles. Here are a few examples.Read more

Amazing Animal Angels

Over the years, we’ve talked many times about animals. It’s a popular subject with you, our readers.

So in this time of worldwide stress and anguish, Spirit suggested we talk about animals’ roles in human lives. They certainly have played a large role in my own personal life over the years.

There’s even a relatively new term, “emotional support animals.” People often bring their emotional support animals with them in stressful situations. For example, we have several people among our family and friends fearful of flying.Read more

Coronavirus Follow-up

This week, Spirit has a few more words about last week’s coronavirus post.

Spirit

When the coronavirus is over, you will enter into that golden age you have long dreamt of. It will be a time when you cherish and love one another more deeply than ever before. And  you will cherish and love yourselves more deeply than ever before.

There is nothing to fear

Your bond and love with the God within grants you immunity like nothing else can.Read more

Coronavirus Cure: Love

coronavirus

There is no passion so contagious as that of fear. ~ Michel de Montaigne

One of our readers asked us what country the coronavirus started in. Spirit’s short answer did not address that specific question, but the broader meaning of the virus.

Spirit

Sometimes the universe will send you a seeming catastrophe in a blatant move to wake you up. (Coronavirus, for example.)

You, your world, your countries have been fighting and warring with each other for centuries. Where has that gotten you?Read more

Yellowstone National Park

volcanic-explosion As some of you know, I live near Yellowstone National Park. The park sits on top of the Yellowstone Caldera, the largest active supervolcano on the continent.

There have been massive eruptions a few times over the last few million years. If the supervolcano erupted again, it could wipe out a good part of the western US, and maybe more.

A dear friend of mine wrote me a while back, and was concerned about the danger of living here. Certainly, if the volcano erupted, it would destroy all life for many miles around.Read more

The Breathtaking Power Within

Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.
Norman Vincent Peale

Some time ago, I watched an interview with a man who was obviously on a conscious path of spiritual growth. I don’t recall his name. But I’ve never forgotten his words.

He told about the time he was sitting in a cafeteria by himself. Suddenly, a stranger walked up to him, and stared at him for a moment.Read more

Miracles and Hate

Today we go beyond the grievances, to look upon the miracle instead.
A Course in Miracles

Can you think of someone you hold a grievance against, perhaps even hate? I think most of us could, at least at one time or another in our lives.

What do miracles and hate have to do with each other?

Spirit

You’ve heard us talk about oneness before. A principle of oneness states what you give you receive. You cannot give to another without receiving the same for yourself.Read more

The Agony of Anxiety and Depression

Just walk slowly in the time after the sun sets and before night descends. Feel the breeze, smell the flowers, hear the trees’ leaves rustle and the birds sing. Watch the stars begin to emerge. ~ Dan Rather, journalist

Peace at Sunset in Tuscany, Italy

Journalist Dan Rather knows a thing or two about finding peace in the present moment, despite a long career spent in anything but peaceful circumstances. Listen to what he says here:

One of my favorite things long has been taking a leisurely stroll with wife Jean at twilight time.Read more

Slow Down—It’s Life-Changing

America is a country that doesn’t know where it is going, but is determined to set a speed record getting there. ~ Laurence J. Peter, Canadian educator

We live in a dizzy world filled with distractions literally everywhere we turn. It seems no matter what we’re doing, we’re constantly being hounded by someone or something pressuring us to do something else. Or to do more, often more than is humanly possible.

We live in a world where there are only two speeds—fast and faster.Read more

What Is True Wealth?

We may be poor in the white man’s way, but we are not poor in the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota ways because we are connected to above and everywhere. ~ David Swallow, Elder and Head Man of the Oglala Lakota Nation

Oglala Lakota Warrior

When I first read David Swallow’s quotation above, I marveled at the power and simplicity of his words. Especially this part: “…we are connected to above and everywhere.”

Spirit

This idea of true wealth has become horribly distorted in your modern world.Read more

Is the Flu Season a Myth?

Everyone has a doctor in him or her. We just have to help it in its work. The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well. ~ Hippocrates

celebrate-the-joy-of-the-holiday-season

The holiday season is upon us. And so too is the flu season—or so the news media (and probably the drug companies) would have us believe. But I know many of you reading this do not buy into that propaganda.

I quit believing in flu season long ago.Read more

The Power of the Present Moment

As we look deeply within, we understand our perfect balance. There is no fear of the cycle of birth, life and death. For when you stand in the present moment, you are timeless. ~ Rodney Yee, American yoga teacher

Why Is the World So Screwed Up?

Nothing real can be threatened; nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God. ~ A Course in Miracles

every day is a new adventure, a new beginning

Every Day Is an Adventure, A New Beginning

Some of the most frequent questions we get in private readings go something like this:

  • Is there something wrong with me?
  • What’s going on with my body?
  • Why am I feeling so scattered and scared?
  • Why is the world so screwed up?

Most of us, particularly if we’re spiritually conscious and aware, have probably asked ourselves those questions, or something similar.Read more

5 Vital Lessons Every Empath Must Learn by Barbara Clark

Empathy is really the opposite of spiritual meanness. It’s the capacity to understand that every war is both won and lost. And that someone else’s pain is as meaningful as your own. ~ Barbara Kingsolver, American novelist and poet

be an empath

We’ve all been there, desperate to help someone we love who is in pain. And I’m willing to bet that most of us have also burned ourselves out at some point. Here are a few tips I’ve learned over the years which help you find peace, nurture and look after yourself.Read more

Beyond The Darkness by John Cali and Spirit

I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkness for it shows me the stars. ~ Og Mandino

the light beyond the darkness The Light Beyond the Darkness

I’m generally pretty upbeat, positive, and happy. Life has been good to me. I’m deeply grateful for that, and for life itself.

However, this past year has been full of challenges for my family and me. There have been some pretty dark days. Also some damn good days, thanks to all the angels, human and in spirit, who’ve been there for us.Read more
