Wyoming has to be one of the windiest, dustiest places on earth. I love it here, but there are a few challenges to living in such a place.

One of those is keeping your house clean and dust-free. Especially if you open your windows a lot, as I do, even in winter.

Down the road from me, one of the neighbors has a small horse ranch. I drive by it almost every day, and love watching the horses frolicking and playing. There are probably 15 or 20 of them, and they can be pretty lively.

Also living on the ranch is a cute little grey donkey. I’ve taken to calling him Old Muley.

Old Muley shares the horses’ stables and fields. And he’s often out in the fields when the horses are out.… Read more

Back in my aviation days, another lifetime or two ago it seems, I flew airplanes for a living, and was also a flight instructor.

In those days part of flight training included spin recovery. For many of my students this was the scariest part of learning to fly. When I was a flight student myself, spins scared the hell out of me.

But the US Federal Aviation Agency, as it was called then, thought spin recovery training necessary. After all, many pilots had gotten themselves into spins.… Read more

Recently I was out jogging on a cold cloudy day. Summers here in Wyoming are usually short, and sometimes punctuated by brief spells of cold weather. And even snow on rare occasions.

I recently spent a day in Yellowstone National Park with a good friend. For those of you unfamiliar with it, Yellowstone is in the northwest corner of Wyoming in the northern Rocky Mountains of the US. Yellowstone, established in 1872 by the US Congress, is the world’s first national park.

Over 90% of Yellowstone is undeveloped wilderness. It’s home to a large and varied animal population. It has 10,000 hot springs, fumaroles, and geysers, more than any other place on the planet.… Read more

As some of you know, I live in the northern Rocky Mountains of northwestern Wyoming in the USA.

Wyoming is a huge state, ninth in size among the 50 United States. It’s a vast, sprawling land of rolling prairies stretching beyond the distant horizons, and high rugged mountains reaching far up into the big blue skies.

Wyoming is mostly empty. Despite its size, it has less than half a million people, the smallest population of all 50 states. Which is one of the reasons I love it here.… Read more

I’ve been noticing lately how judgemental and critical we humans can be of one another. Especially in this era of the so-called “war on terror,” and war on practically everything we deem wrong or evil. This extends even to something as bland and benign as someone’s opinion with which we disagree. Or someone’s ethnic background.

I’ve never worn a watch in all my adult life, and that’s a lot of years! Never liked the things. And it hasn’t interfered with my life at all. I’ve always managed to keep appointments and observe my other responsibilities without being enslaved to something going “tick-tock” on my wrist.

This morning, as I was returning home from jogging, I spotted a sign by the side of the road. The lettering was big and brightly colored. It really caught your eye.

My son John recently came out to Wyoming to spend some time with me. It was a joyous reunion since we hadn’t seen each other in nearly a year.

One morning a while back, I was out jogging in the foothills of the mountains near my house. It’s wild, rough country.

My mind was pretty much a blank, as it generally is when I jog. I was just enjoying the rugged green mountains rising up all about me, and the broad valley stretching off into the misty blue distance far below me, a slow-moving river lazily winding its way westward through the valley.

Last weekend I was reflecting on all the changes in my personal life this past year.

My son had gotten married and then decided to move to Africa for two years. I had moved from the USA’s east coast to the northern Rocky Mountains. Some of my years-long relationships faltered and vanished. Other new relationships sprung up and flourished.

And those were just “the tip of the iceberg.”

I was touched by Spirit’s message regarding “truth.” Staying out of judgment is a thing many, many gifted people have written about and, certainly, refraining from judgment is a key. However, there is something that seems to precede refraining from judgment. That is the Law of Allowance.

Recently I had several bizarre conversations with someone I’ve known and been close to all our lives. We’ll call him Tom (not his real name).

Tom and I grew up together in the same small town, in the same neighborhood, in the same extended family, in the same environment. And we had what I remember as a wonderful childhood. Oh, there were the usual “growing pains” but, overall, it was a happy time.

Here is the relevant excerpt:

“You don’t corner the market on truth. You offer much in your letters that is flawed, but tolerable in recognition of the fact that it is all a part of your path, your growth.”
