I don’t know how many times my family and friends have asked me that question. Ever since they discovered I talk to angels and dead folks they’ve been wondering about my sanity.

Most of the people asking the question belong to a traditional religion, and often have a hard time with my spiritual path.

When I first started getting the question I would hesitate, usually managing only a half-baked answer.

Wind In the Willows by John Cali

That title is from an old Christmas song of the same name. Though I am no longer Christian, I love the song’s lyrics. They convey a positive, uplifting message of love and joy.

The song’s story is about Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, and their travels all over the world bringing a message of peace and joy to all who would listen. The story is clearly fictional, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is the message.

I’ve had some recent challenges in a couple of my personal relationships. As Spirit often says, relationships are marvelous opportunities for growth.

At an earlier time I would have reacted very differently than I did with these recent “opportunities for growth.” I would have lashed out angrily in reaction to the others’ behavior. This time I didn’t.

Spirit has said our pets are often our spiritual teachers. Intriguing idea, isn’t it?

In July this year we wrote an article, Heart to Heart. In that article Spirit said this:

“Animals, especially your domestic pets (as you call them) — and especially dogs and cats — are more often than not your teachers. They have little to learn from you. But you have much to learn from them.”

I know many of us dearly love our pets and often treat them as revered family members.

A Gallup poll a while back reported 2 out of 3 Americans suffer from low self-esteem and, presumably, a lack of self-love. That’s nearly 70 percent of the USA’s population!

The poll didn’t talk about other countries, but I’d guess it’s about the same as in the United States.

There’s been a steady, years-long stream of folks suffering from a lack of self-love and self-esteem coming to us for private sessions with Spirit. There have also been some of my close family and friends who’ve talked with me about their lack of self-love and self-esteem.… Read more

Happiness Revisited by John Cali

Self-esteem expert and best-selling author Jack Canfield says the average child hears 432 negative statements every day, but only 32 positive statements.

The California Task Force for Personal and Social Responsibility has this to say:
