Many years ago a young lady (I’ll call her “Karen”) wrote me because she was deeply concerned about her mother’s well-being.
The mother was single, and Karen desperately wanted her to find a romantic partner and “live happily ever after.” But she didn’t know what she could do to help her mom.
Karen said she’d been anxiously worrying and fearing the worst. The worst being, in Karen’s view, that her mother would live out the rest of her life with no man.… Read more
It’s obvious to most people around my town that I don’t have a “regular” job. So folks often ask me “What do you do?”
Till recently I would tell them, depending on how I read their energy, “Well, I’m a writer.” Or “I’m a spiritual teacher.” Or even “Not much — I’m sort of retired.” (Which is only a “half-truth.”) I call this sort of conversation “empty cocktail-party chatter.”
Now my response to that question, “What do you do?” is very different.… Read more

I’ve had some recent challenges in a couple of my personal relationships. As Spirit often says, relationships are marvelous opportunities for growth.
At an earlier time I would have reacted very differently than I did with these recent “opportunities for growth.” I would have lashed out angrily in reaction to the others’ behavior. This time I didn’t.
I’m not sure exactly how I managed this. But I do know I was able to see the other people as I knew my higher self saw them.… Read more
The other day an old friend and I were talking about the many blessings we have in our lives. Then, somehow, our conversation drifted to a “fact of life” we all must face, assuming we live long enough — growing old.
My friend — I’ll call him “Jack” — is an upbeat, positive, happy guy. He has much to be thankful for — work he loves, financial abundance, a happy marriage, a loving family, good health. Everything most folks aspire to.… Read more

Spirit often gives me spontaneous messages, even when I have not intended to channel. Typically those messages are very short, and usually only for my personal benefit, not for the public.
However, Spirit obviously did not intend this message, given me in the pre-dawn darkness of a cold Sunday morning, only for my personal benefit.
Here’s Spirit.… Read more
I’m writing this on Thanksgiving Day (in the United States). I just found out about the death of a dear friend.
My spirit guides have said for years there is no death. What we call death is an illusion. It’s not the ending of a life, but only the beginning of a new life.
I believe that, and have always accepted it. The past several years we’ve had many deaths in our family. I did not have a hard time with any of them.… Read more
Just over a week ago we did a blog article, Three-Minute Healing, which received a fair number of comments. So I thought we’d do a followup.
In our years of working together, Spirit and I have seen a pretty predictable pattern in the questions and issues people want to discuss with us. One of those — no surprise — is healing.
Many folks struggle with healing, especially with the idea healing does not have to take a long time — even healing from so-called “terminal” diseases, as we saw in the Three-Minute Healing article.… Read more

Since I started doing this work with Spirit I’ve often been criticized by family, friends, and opponents for following the wrong path. Especially in spiritual matters.
We don’t have to look any farther than the mainstream news media headlines to see graphic examples of people not only criticizing others for having different beliefs and values, but even killing them for it.… Read more
In an earlier article on this blog, Do You Believe in Miracles?, we talked about so-called “miraculous” healings. What that usually means is medical science cannot explain the healings. But there’s really nothing miraculous about them.
As Spirit has said, “Miracles are nothing extraordinary. They are, indeed, the most ordinary events in the lives of you, gods and goddesses in human form….”… Read more
Over the years many people have asked Spirit about their beloved pets who have died.
We easily believe we humans continue on after physical death. But we sometimes wonder about our animal family. Just this past week several of our friends have experienced the death of a pet.
If you’re animal lover, as I am, you know the heartbreak and pain of losing the physical presence of a beloved pet.
A few years ago Spirit and I wrote an article, Hans Was Here, about the death of one of our family dogs.… Read more
This may sound morbid to some folks, but I’ve always had a keen interest in death, even as young kid. So when two states, Georgia and Texas, executed two men the same night last month, that got my attention.
Quite apart from whether the two men were guilty or not (one’s guilt was virtually certain, and the other’s was in grave doubt), is the so-called death penalty justified?… Read more
Is suffering necessary while we walk the earth? It would seem it is, given that today many people are suffering deeply, and many more have suffered down through the centuries. In our work, Spirit and I often come across folks who believe their “lot in life” is to suffer.
This past month or so I’ve been preoccupied with family matters and also with some unexpected changes in my work. So this week we’re repeating an article, Pain and Suffering, we wrote several years ago on this daunting issue of suffering so many folks struggle with.… Read more
As you know, if you’ve been with us long enough, my spirit guides often talk about finding meaning in life through joy. In fact it’s one of their major “themes.” They often advise us to look for the joy in all our experiences, even the tough ones — especially the tough ones.
Now and then I get angry objections from some of our newsletter and blog readers. They usually go something like this: “How can I possibly find joy or meaning in this experience (death in the family, terminal illness, no home, not enough money, miserable marriage, etc.)?… Read more
Today, September 21, is the International Day of Peace, also called World Peace Day.
It all began in 1981 when the United Nations General Assembly declared its opening session, the third Tuesday in September, as International Day of Peace. Since then we’ve celebrated every September 21 as World Peace Day.
Are we any closer to world peace today, 30 years later, than we were in 1981?… Read more
We had a death in our family last month. Actually, several deaths. The last two were just a few days apart.
The first death last month was a young US Army soldier, only 23 years old. He died in the widely publicized helicopter crash in Afghanistan on August 6. We wrote about this young man in a recent blog post, The Rose.
The second death, shortly after the first, was an elderly man, nearly 100 years old. He’d lived a long, happy life with a wonderfully warm, caring family.… Read more
I grew up in Westfield, a farming village on the shores of Lake Erie. It’s a delightful, friendly little town. I lived there happily for many years.
An old childhood friend of mine, who also grew up in Westfield, was fond of “bashing” the town after she moved far away. She would criticize those of our family and friends who chose to live out their lives in Westfield, calling them “stupid failures.” She didn’t see how they could possibly be happy there.… Read more
One of the questions we often get about manifesting is “Why does it take so long?”
If you’re a subscriber to our weekly newsletter you probably recall the articles we recently ran, The Secret to Manifesting Your Dreams, Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. We received some interesting feedback on those articles. Here are some excerpts from one reader’s comments:
“I have read all three parts of The Secret of Manifesting Your Dreams and have to say that I am doing my best to stick with ‘the manifesting program’ for I know I create everything in my life….the… Read more
This is a much longer article than we normally write. I hope you’ll bear with us, and find some comfort and peace in Spirit’s words.
Events like those of Tuesday, September 11, while certainly heart-wrenching and terribly tragic from a human standpoint, always have great potential for good. I’m sure the world will see much good coming from these circumstances in the days and years ahead.… Read more
We’ve talked about healing many times over the years. But the subject keeps coming up. We all know why — our world, and each of us individually, need healing of one kind or another: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual.
Although we focus on physical healing in this article, that’s only one part of our full return to wholeness and wellness. The second part is to focus on our own healing before we can help others and our world to heal. And that’s the third part — helping others and the world to heal.… Read more

As I’m sure most of you know, an earthquake hit Washington, DC this past Tuesday. And now, as I write this, Hurricane Irene is bearing down on the US capital city.
Earthquakes are virtually unknown in Washington, where I lived for many years before moving to Wyoming. Tuesday’s quake did considerable damage. Though, as far as I know, there were no serious human injuries or deaths. The quake rumbled through nearly one-third of the entire United States.… Read more
We have a fairly steady stream of new subscribers to our newsletter, and most are happy with it and with our website. But not everyone. One new subscriber asked me to remove her from our mailing list the day after she signed up.
She said she’d never seen a website where there was so much for sale. How, she complained bitterly, was anyone supposed to figure out if what we had to offer was worthwhile?
The complaint didn’t make much sense to me, and I pointed out to her that our site has far more free information than items for sale.… Read more
I am not a sports fan, and never have been. One of the reasons is sports, at least in the USA, are far too competitive to suit my taste. This is a time when our planet needs desperately to be replacing competition with cooperation.
For those of you who are sports fans, I’m sure you know about the brawl in San Francisco at the Candlestick Park football game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders. Two young men were shot and severely wounded, and may die.… Read more
Many years ago I was a commercial pilot and flight instructor. In our company we used small single-engine Piper aircraft to train students. One of the most challenging lessons for students (including me when I was a student) was spin control.
Many fatal aviation accidents in those days were caused by pilots losing control and spinning into the ground. So spin control was a required part of the flight curriculum.… Read more
