We’ve all heard that saying, “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.” Well, my good friend, Dan Poynter of Para Publishing, recently demonstrated how to do just that, in a most impressive way.

Last summer Dan was diagnosed with Chromosome Trisomy 19, a rare and potentially life-threatening blood disorder. His doctor decided he needed a stem cell transplant. Although this disorder is not cancer, its treatment is similar to certain cancer treatments.

A few days ago I spent several long hours in the hospital. Not because there was anything wrong with me. I just had go for a yearly eye exam, and my doctor’s office is in a hospital.

Your “dead” animals often return to visit you. (As do your human loved ones.)

They often have a desire, from beyond the grave, to help you and to continue loving you.

As a former commercial pilot, I had lots of exciting adventures (and a few brushes with death)—some of which I’ve talked about in these posts over the years.

But I never had an experience like that of Lieutenants Charlie Brown and Fritz Stigler, both World War 2 pilots. They met on December 20, 1943, 5 days before Christmas, in skies over Germany.

Even though it was many years ago, I clearly remember the night of December 29, 1972. That was the night Eastern Airlines Flight 401 crashed into the Florida Everglades.

Of the 176 people aboard the Lockheed L-1011, 101 died, including Captain Robert Loft, First Officer Albert Stockstill, and Second Officer Donald Repo. It was pretty remarkable so many survived such a horrendous crash.

The dream included only two people—a friend from this lifetime and me. The setting seemed to be around the mid-1800s in a house I know very well in this lifetime. This week I’ve been “babysitting” my brother’s and sister-in-law’s elderly, ailing cat Caesar while they’re travelling. I had to take Caesar to his veterinarian for a checkup a couple days ago. While in the waiting room I spied a book called Animals Are Soul Too! As I scanned through the book I realized it was filled with stories of animals acting more like humans than, well, animals.

Our title today is taken from an article recently appearing in The Independent, an online British newspaper.

It seems Pope Francis has promised shorter sentences in purgatory for those Roman Catholics who commit minor sins (“venial” sins, as the church calls them). The shorter sentences are known as “indulgences.”

According to Catholic teaching, if people die without confessing their sins to a priest, they will go to either purgatory (for minor or “venial” sins) or hell (for major or “mortal” sins).… Read more

This past week—on July 1, 2, and 3—the United States commemorated the 150^th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, fought during the American Civil War. The war pitted the South’s Confederate Army against the North’s Union Army. According to many historians it was the pivotal point of the war, which ended with the defeat of the Confederate Army nearly two years later.

I never thought much about growing older—that is, until it started happening to me.

But you know what? This is the best time of my life. I’m having more fun, am happy and healthy, and doing only what I love. I’ve learned every moment is precious.

How do we reconcile these two seemingly contradictory concepts?

As you may know, legendary psychic Sylvia Browne was harshly criticized this past week for a wrong prediction she made. Her prediction had to do with the kidnapping ten years ago of three women in Cleveland, Ohio (in the United States). One of the women was Amanda Berry. A year after the kidnapping Sylvia told Amanda’s mother her daughter had died and was “on the other side.”
