Philosopher Albert Camus said “Peace is the only battle worth waging.”

War and peace are much on the world’s mind today, especially with the recent Syrian crisis. And, of course, the other conflicts raging around the planet.

Here are some of Spirit’s thoughts:

You will never make peace with bombs and guns.

If you carry any hatred, anger, resentment, or bitterness in your heart, you are making war, not peace.

You cannot create peace by waging war. You cannot create peace by protesting war.

Even in this era of dramatic transformation on our planet and in our human consciousness, there are still places where we hang on tightly to outdated ideas that just don’t work anymore. Or perhaps never did.

One of those is certainly the whole area of human sexuality, especially homosexuality.

I personally find it encouraging that we are at least talking more openly than ever before about these issues, especially homosexuality.

We are often urged to follow our hearts. But how many of us do it consistently?

In my own personal experience, and in talking with others about their experiences, I find two significant blocks to following our hearts.

First, we’re too easily swayed by the opinions of others.

Second, we do not trust ourselves and our own inner guidance.

A couple nights ago I had one of the most vivid dreams I can ever remember.

The dream included only two people—a friend from this lifetime and me. The setting seemed to be around the mid-1800s in a house I know very well in this lifetime. We were having a disagreement about our relationship, and the dream ended without us settling our differences—even though we both said we loved the other.

One of the biggest issues plaguing many of the folks I work with is self-love—or, rather, the lack of it. Often this is rooted in past experiences of this lifetime, or even of past lives.

I realize that image is a strange one for a spiritual newsletter. The gun, a replica of an 1873 Colt Firearms revolver, was called The Peacemaker. Ironic name for something intended to kill and destroy.

Since I’m once again away from home this week, our weekly newsletter article is short.

A couple nights ago I noticed a beautiful long-legged brown fly on one of the kitchen window sills. I moved to get a closer look, and realized he had only one wing. He wasn’t afraid of me, and just stood there. He looked like a miniature dragonfly—although dragonflies have four wings, and this little creature had only one.

This week I’ve been “babysitting” my brother’s and sister-in-law’s elderly, ailing cat Caesar while they’re travelling. I had to take Caesar to his veterinarian for a checkup a couple days ago. While in the waiting room I spied a book called Animals Are Soul Too! As I scanned through the book I realized it was filled with stories of animals acting more like humans than, well, animals.

Our title today is taken from an article recently appearing in The Independent, an online British newspaper.

It seems Pope Francis has promised shorter sentences in purgatory for those Roman Catholics who commit minor sins (“venial” sins, as the church calls them). The shorter sentences are known as “indulgences.”

According to Catholic teaching, if people die without confessing their sins to a priest, they will go to either purgatory (for minor or “venial” sins) or hell (for major or “mortal” sins).… Read more

Where is your focus? Are your negative beliefs being activated? What is your vibration around being healthy, happy and slim?

Try this simple exercise, say aloud “I am healthy, happy and slim”. Pay close attention to how you feel when you say the words. How true do they feel? Do you feel a “stuckness”, resistance, tightness?

Now try, “Why am I so healthy, happy and slim?”. How does that feel? Is there a difference?

I had a chance—two chances, in fact—to answer that question recently. The answer in both cases was “Not very good.”

I generally respond to criticism kindly, even if the critic is not being kind. Within this past month two people have harshly criticized my spiritual work, and me personally.

The first I had never met and did not know. In fact, she obviously knew nothing about my work. Except one thing—she didn’t like it.

This past week—on July 1, 2, and 3—the United States commemorated the 150^th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, fought during the American Civil War. The war pitted the South’s Confederate Army against the North’s Union Army. According to many historians it was the pivotal point of the war, which ended with the defeat of the Confederate Army nearly two years later.

I never thought much about growing older—that is, until it started happening to me.

But you know what? This is the best time of my life. I’m having more fun, am happy and healthy, and doing only what I love. I’ve learned every moment is precious.
