How comfortable are you when you’re alone? If you’re like a lot of folks, you probably avoid being alone as much as possible.

Then there are those who actually enjoy being alone. I’m one of them. I love people, but I also need my “alone time.” And I’m never bored or lonely.

I grew up on the southern shore of the USA’s Lake Erie, one of the country’s five Great Lakes.

The Myth of Deterioration by John Cali

Almost two months ago we published a blog post called Destined To Deteriorate. I was reminded of that post a few days ago as I was reading an article about aging.

One of the folks interviewed for the article, a medical doctor, said it was virtually inevitable, if we live long enough, we will all fall apart mentally and physically. As he put it, eventually we end up as the patients of some medical practitioner or other.

Your Amazing Body by John Cali

Spirit often talks about the self-healing powers of our bodies. Yet we sometimes question and doubt those powers. Or we interfere with them, though not normally by deliberate intent.

An article I recently read talked about our bodies’ amazing abilities, not only to heal themselves, but also to regenerate themselves. Research is ongoing. But, according to the article, the human body can regenerate its liver, heart, red blood cells, brain cells, digestive tract cells, skin, and so on.

Love Is a Choice by John Cali

Many years ago Spirit gave me their definition of love, and it’s the definition I’ve stayed with ever since: “Love is a choice to see the divinity in all beings.”

Feeling Jittery by John Cali

The past few days I’ve been feeling jittery. You know – nervous, unable to concentrate, scattered thoughts, etc. This is totally out of character for me. I’m normally calm, focused, and peaceful. So it came a most unpleasant surprise.

I recently heard a wonderfully wise and witty speech by Brene Brown. She talked briefly about religion:

“Religion has gone from a belief in faith and mystery to certainty. I’m right, you’re wrong, shut up.”

That superior condescending attitude applies not only to religion, but also to other areas of our modern society. Politics, for example. And even personal relationships.

Wind In the Willows by John Cali

That title is from an old Christmas song of the same name. Though I am no longer Christian, I love the song’s lyrics. They convey a positive, uplifting message of love and joy.

The song’s story is about Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, and their travels all over the world bringing a message of peace and joy to all who would listen. The story is clearly fictional, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is the message.

Many years ago a young lady (I’ll call her “Karen”) wrote me because she was deeply concerned about her mother’s well-being.

The mother was single, and Karen desperately wanted her to find a romantic partner and “live happily ever after.” But she didn’t know what she could do to help her mom.
