Daylight Saving Time

As you probably know, so-called daylight saving time has begun in most of the United States. It began a bit later in Europe.

I have never been a fan of the twice-yearly time switch. I know the arguments for and against it. But it never made much sense to me. In fact, I love these words from a wise old Native American:

Only a white man would believe you could cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and have a longer blanket.Read more

Lessons I Learned From A Bar of Soap

Well, here we go again with another of our weird titles.

Many years ago, my fourth grade teacher had us do a brief experiment for her science class.

Two students stood facing each other. One closed her eyes. The other held a strong-smelling bar of soap under the nose of the student with the closed eyes.

The teacher instructed the student with the closed eyes to let the class know when the other student had removed the bar of soap.

After a minute or so, she said it had been removed.Read more

Respect For Others’ Opinions

We’re living in a contentious era of disrespect and disregard for others’ opinions, especially if they do not agree with ours. Do you have a hard time talking with someone who does not agree with you?

Spirit

Although this is rapidly changing, many of you still struggle with speaking with those whose ideas, lifestyles, and opinions are different from yours.

Today we’re asking you to ask yourselves why this is. And what you can do about it. We’ll give you a few of our ideas here.Read more

The Loch Ness Monster

In one of Berna’s recent question-and-answer sessions with Spirit, she asked about the famous Loch Ness monster of Scotland. That probably doesn’t seem like a very “spiritual” subject. But let’s wait and see.

Berna

Johnny is fascinated by the stories of the monster of Loch Ness in Scotland. What’s going on there? Are these just stories?

Spirit

No, they are not just stories. There is a lot going on there. The Scottish people have struggled with “Nessie” (their nickname for the creature) well over 100 years.Read more

Return To Love

posted in: Blog, channeling, inspiration | 6

My spirit guides often say nothing you do, say, or think is done in a vacuum. It all ripples out to the whole world and touches many lives, whether you’re aware of it or not.

Spirit

You have often heard us say you are all connected. It can never be otherwise.

However, you live in the illusion of separation. You see this person here, another there, and so on—all separate, even distant from you.

You chose to physically incarnate, or reincarnate, into this world of illusion many times over many years.Read more

You Did Not Come Here To Fail

Have you ever wondered what happens to a person who commits suicide?

Spirit

Suicide

Your society generally condemns suicide. It looks down on those who attempt it, especially if they succeed.

Is that condemnation justified? In our opinion, no!

Many of you reading this have been affected by the suicide, or attempted suicide, of someone close to you.

Why You Came to Earth

First of all, you must remember no one on your planet today came here without a good reason.Read more

What Is Love?

Love does not discriminate. Love does not separate. Love does not attack in any way. It is a peaceful extension of All That Is….Love is always there. That benevolent force is always there….”

Those words are excerpted from Tina Spalding’s book, Jesus: My Autobiography.

Spirit

“Love” is perhaps the most abused and misused word in the English language.

When you use the word (perhaps more than you consciously realize), do you know what you’re saying?

When you tell someone “I love you,” are you fully aware of the word’s true meaning?Read more

Sickness and Healing: Follow-Up

Several people questioned our statement in the Sickness and Healing post a couple weeks ago. The statement:

“…as spirit embodied physically, you live in the illusion of linear time…. healing can appear to take time. But rest assured, the moment you ask, in that moment, you are permanently healed.

Those ideas did not originate with us. You will find them, and related ideas, at least several times in A Course In Miracles. Here are a few examples.Read more

Expectations Great and Small

We’ve talked before about how powerful our expectations are. To put it simply, we get what we expect.

Spirit

Most humans vastly underestimate the power of their minds. Your lives could be so much more peaceful, joyful, and loving if you honored who you all truly are.

So just who are you?

Well, you’ve heard it said you were made in the image and likeness of God/Goddess. That is literally true. That, of course, means you have all the creative powers of divinity.Read more

Sickness and Healing

A Course in Miracles, in The Manual for Teachers, says this:

“The acceptance of sickness as a decision of the mind, for a purpose for which it would use the body, is the basis of healing….Who is the physician? Only the mind of the patient….What is the single requisite for this shift in perception?….the recognition that sickness is of the mind, and has nothing to do with the body.”

Those are pretty radical statements, don’t you think? But in them is the key to all healing, no matter the disease or disorder.Read more

Dementia: Curse or Blessing?

posted in: Blog, channeling, mind body soul | 6

Berna and I have been discussing dementia lately. We have folks among our family and friends with dementia.

It’s so common today, and I’m sure many of you know someone affected by it.

Spirit

As Johnny said, dementia is a common condition in your current world. It was not always that way.

The reasons it is common today are varied. But one of the main reasons is so many humans expect it to be. And many also expect it to happen to them, and not always in that period of life you call “old age.”Read more

I Do Not Know

Sometimes the wisest way you can answer a question is simply, “I do not know.”

Spirit

We agree with Johnny. Admitting you do not have all the answers is wise. After all, what do you really know?

That is the greatest answer you can give to all the questions life throws at you every day. I do not know.

If you are on a conscious and deliberate spiritual path, you are daily confronted with opportunities to grow and expand your awareness.Read more

Thanks

How often have you wished someone you helped had said “Thanks,” but they never did? Or how often have you neglected to thank someone who did you a huge favor — and you didn’t even know about the favor till years later?

Over the years, we’ve often talked about the power of gratitude. And also about how often we deeply touch the lives of people we’ve known only briefly, or not at all.

Today, with our world in its current state, many folks are wondering how they can be grateful when everything seems to be going to hell.Read more

The Real Christmas

Our title today is taken from a story my son John wrote many years ago, when he was only 8 years old.

Spirit

Even though many of you are aware of the magic of Christmas, you’ve pretty much lost sight of the real Christmas. It’s become a commercialized farce, a parody of the real Christmas spirit.

Ask and Receive

Many years ago when I was a young, inexperienced pilot I had a terrifying experience I’ll never forget.

It was a sunny Sunday morning in early spring. A friend of mine wanted to go for a plane ride. So we decided to fly from our home near Dunkirk, New York southwest to Youngstown, Ohio. He had family in Youngstown he wanted to visit.

On the return to Dunkirk late that afternoon, the weather turned foggy. I did not yet have an instrument rating.Read more

The Faces of Death

We realize some of you reading this will find the subject “distasteful”, in Spirit’s words. Or worse. So, without further ado, let’s proceed.

Spirit

Today we’re talking about death, a subject many find distasteful at minimum. Specifically, abortion.

When you have an unborn fetus, a baby still in its mother’s womb, there is always a soul or spirit willing to occupy it. That spirit is fully aware of the what is going on with the potential mother, the woman who carries the fetus.Read more

Befriending Fear

There’s an old Sioux legend about a time of no rain for many months.

Fear grew among the people and spread across their vast prairie lands. It killed everything in its path—people, animals. trees, plants.

But there was a small part of the prairie where a few children and elders were playing, singing, and dancing. And they had invited Fear to join them. Soon, they were all crying.

The wind carried the singing, dancing, and crying out across the vast prairie.Read more

Homelessness

A prominent stereotype today is homeless people.

In several recent conversations I’ve had with folks about homeless people, the common attitude was, “If they had any ambition, they wouldn’t be homeless. They’re simply irresponsible.”

In other words, it’s their own fault. But is it?

The Canadian organization, New Leaf Project, recently did a research project on homelessness. They gave 115 homeless people $7,500 each. One year later, most of the 115 people had $1,000 in savings, and were able to feed themselves and their families.Read more

Behind The Scenes

The other day, Berna and I were discussing several families we know with foster or adopted children.

The children, for reasons not always obvious, often face unusually daunting challenges. Sometimes as children, as adults, or both.

Why?

Spirit

It is often tempting for humans to judge others. In fact, judgement is one of the greatest weaknesses most humans have.

You have a saying that goes something like this:
“You can never know another person’s path until you have walked a mile in their shoes.”Read more

Happiness: An Impossible Dream?

posted in: Blog, channeling, life purpose | 4

We’ve talked about happiness many times over the years. Probably because it seems an impossible dream for many, especially in today’s crazy world.

The question we often hear is “How can I be happy when the world is going to hell?”

Good question.

Spirit

We love talking about happiness. Why? Because it’s such an important part of your lives as humans. And yet happiness often eludes most humans.

You even have organizations who specialize in happiness research. While we applaud those dedicated folks who do that, the focus is sometimes too much on the material aspects of human happiness.Read more

Euthanasia For Animals

posted in: Blog, channeling, inspiration | 4

After our Death and Euthanasia post a few weeks ago, several of our readers asked us to talk about euthanasia as related to animals.

Spirit

One of our readers commented, “Please talk about euthanizing pets. Most of us can’t tell what the animal would want.”

Another added “Please do address thJ8Fcx4Mfd32ssnev@x9G7ske topic when pets/animals go through physical suffering and how we can be of better assistance to them. Thanks again for doing such a great service for all of us!”Read more

The Voice Inside Your Head

There’s an interesting story about Joan of Arc when she was on trial for heresy. She claimed God spoke to her regularly. The trial judge asked her if God’s voice could be just her imagination. She replied, “Of course! How else could He speak to me?”

The story may or may not be true, but it makes an excellent point.

Under The Hood

Back in my aviation days as a flight instructor, we had an expression, “Under the hood.” That was how we trained student pilots — we put them under a hood.

It was literally a hood they wore over their heads. The hood allowed them to see only straight ahead to the airplane’s instrument panel. It blocked out their peripheral vision. The only visual clues they had were the plane’s instruments. They were literally flying blind.

It was often the hardest part of any student pilot’s training.Read more

Death and Euthanasia

posted in: Blog, channeling, inspiration | 10

We realize death and euthanasia are are grim-sounding title. But Spirit’s words today are uplifting and joyful, despite the subject.

Someone Berna and I know died recently. He’d been sick a long time, and was in terrible pain. Voluntary euthanasia is legal where he lived. He chose to end his life.

We have long been advocates for euthanasia. That’s alienated some of my family—and perhaps also some of our readers.

Spirit has talked about death, dying, and euthanasia many times over the years.Read more

You Are Miracle Workers

With the pandemic and all the other stresses of today’s world, many folks are facing more physical problems than usual.

There’s a wonderful reminder in A Course in Miracles that I really love:
“Miracles enable you to heal the sick and raise the dead because you made sickness and death yourself, and can therefore abolish both.”

Spirit

That quotation above from A Course in Miracles may sound like a trip to the edge of sanity. Can you really heal the sick and raise the dead?Read more
